About this file
This document is the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) template for construction, renovation, and maintenance activities. The document provides a comprehensive framework for assessing and mitigating infection risks during various facility work categories, ranging from minor tasks (Category A) to large-scale construction (Category D). The ICRA includes six key tables that guide users through:
- Categorizing construction/maintenance activities based on complexity and potential disruption, 2) Identifying affected areas and associated patient risks, 3) Determining patient risk categories from low to highest risk, 4) Establishing appropriate levels of infection prevention and control precautions, 5) Specifying required control measures for each precaution level, and 6) Outlining minimum infection prevention steps upon activity completion. The template is designed to help VHA facilities systematically evaluate and manage infection control risks during facility modifications, with detailed checklists and requirements for cleaning, barrier construction, HVAC system management, and post-work area restoration across different risk scenarios.
