About this file
This document is an attachment to a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a lamination die and manufacturing project for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The solicitation (RFP365662) requires a vendor to design and build a lamination die, produce 2 machined parts, and manufacture 6,695 lamination parts. Critical requirements include submitting 6 sample laminations for coordinate measuring machine (C.M.M.) inspection before and after die maintenance, with vendor approval contingent on meeting precise specifications.
Specific technical and packaging requirements include using only approved "air dry" lubricants without chlorine, delivering parts fully degreased and free of burrs and contaminants, and packaging laminations in Fermilab-approved boxes with proper protection and clear part number marking. The quote submission deadline is April 28, 2025, and vendors must provide material specifications, complete in-house quality control, and ensure the die is packaged to prevent damage during transit to Fermilab. The vendor will be responsible for comprehensive inspection and quality control throughout the production process.

The die can be Quoted less the machined parts if needed.
Material to be provided by vendor.
- Please provide the amount of material that will be required to fabricate, laminations, tie bar and front plate.
- Seller shall submit 6 sample laminations to FNAL for coordinate measuring machine (C.M.M.). inspection. Approval required prior to production run.
- Seller shall submit 6 sample laminations to FNAL for C.M.M. after die sharpening or die maintenance. Approval required prior to continuing run.
- Seller shall have in-house (C.M.M.) to verify die accuracy and conformance of lamination to drawings.
- Seller shall be responsible for in-house inspection quality control during the entire production run. If lubricant is needed during the stamping operation, only “air dry” lubricant may be used. Lubricant cannot contain any chlorine and must be buyer approved. The following are approved lubricants;
IRMCO 107 NON-OIL Fluid
DMI 100
TOWER DRAW E-413
PHAR-NO-LUBE LD-404
OAK 50-5
-Parts are to be delivered fully degreased
- Items are to be delivered free of burrs, chips, cutting oils and other contaminates
- Die shall be shipped to Fermilab upon completion of stamping. The die is to be packaged, boxed and/or crated adequately to prevent distortion, damage, rust while in transit to Fermilab. Packaging is to be prominently marked with the part number and revision level.
- Completed laminations shall be neatly stacked in Fermilab approved boxes (could be cardboard), banded to a skid. Adequate protection (blocking, crating, banding, etc.) shall be afforded the laminations to preclude their being damage during handling, transit to Fermilab, or while in storage. Parts must be protected from exposure to the elements. Packaging is to be prominently marked with the part number and revision level.
