About this file
This document is a guide specification section (Section 270508) for common work results in telecommunications systems, issued by the United States Department of State Overseas Buildings Operations on October 1, 2023. The section provides comprehensive technical requirements and standards for telecommunications infrastructure, including detailed specifications for installation, equipment, and quality assurance.
Key requirements include mandatory qualifications for installation personnel, such as having Registered Communications Distribution Designers (RCDD) with at least ten years of experience, BICSI Registered Technicians for supervision, and certification requirements for installation technicians. The document mandates specific technical standards from organizations like ANSI/TIA, IEEE, and ISO/IEC, and establishes strict guidelines for equipment storage, environmental conditions, and installation practices. Notable restrictions include prohibiting near field communication technologies like Bluetooth and requiring disabling of WiFi, auto-answering, and remote control features on telecommunications equipment prior to installation.
