Product- and Applications Description
The proximity switch is provided as an opening alarm for moni-toring windows and doors. It is operated in a contactless man-ner by a separate permanent magnet. If the clearance between the proximity switch and the magnet increases, the reed con-tact opens.
It records the status (open or closed). This information is trans-ferred to a KNX system via binary reporting inputs. The analysis of these states is used, for example, for an energy-optimised heating and climate control system, as well as for safety func-tions to monitor the building shell in risk reporting systems.
The proximity switch is provided in a set, consisting of:
• 1 magnet, Ø 8 × 30 mm
• 1 magnetic contact, Ø 8 × 30 mm in an encapsulated plastic housing, with a 5 m lead cable LiYY 4 × 0.14 mm²
• 2 × housing tops (43 × 12 × 12) mm
• 2 × housing bottoms
• 4 × distance plates 2 × 4 mm or 2 × 2 mm thickness
• 2 x building-in flanges
• 4 × anti-magnetic recess plate screws

Mounting and wiring
Installation notes
The proximity switch is mounted and used in accordance with VdS Directive 2311.
There are two installation options for built-in or built-on mount-ing of the proximity switch and the associated magnets:
- axial (for built-in mounting)
- parallel (for built-on mounting)
Built-in mounting:
With the built-in version, there is the option to build the magnet and proximity switch into doors and windows, in order to pro-tect them from access and hide them from view.
With window mounting, the magnet is fitted in the window leaf and the proximity switch in the frame. With door mounting, the magnet is mounted in the door and the proximity switch in the door frame. The mounting must be on the building line axially (see figure 1)

With anti-magnetic materials, the building-in flange is used (see figure 2). Magnet and proximity switch housing must be fixed in the building-in flange with adhesive (cyanacrylate – super-glue). Anti-magnetic recessed plate screws DIN 7982-ST2, 9 ×16-A2 are to be used to secure the building-in flange.
The following dimensions match the corresponding drilled holes:
without building-in flange:
Proximity switch: Ø 8 mm × 30 mm Magnet: Ø 8 mm × 30 mm with building-in flange:
Proximity switch: Ø 10 mm × 30 mm Magnet: Ø 10 mm × 30 mm
The proximity switch feed cable requires a boring of at least Ø 4 mm.
Attention:
Borings for building in are to be matched, so that greater force than is necessary is avoided!
Never use a hammer to drive proximity switches and magnets into borings that are too narrow!

Ø 8mm x 30mm magnet
Figure 1: axial mounting
Attention:
Clearances and the frontal offset (figure 1) between proximity switch and magnet must be obeyed!
Figure 2: Building-in flange
Built-on mounting:
If the building-in situation does not allow anything else, there is the option to mount the magnets on the moving part, the door leaf or window leaf and the proximity switch on the fixed com-ponent, architrave or frame.
The two housings provide mounting versions for proximity switches in parallel mounting.
The maximum mounting clearance is to be taken from figure 4, with consideration of the lateral offset and possible tolerances at the mounting point
The housing should be screwed on with the 4 anti-magnetic re-cessed plate screws DIN 7982-ST2, 9 × 16-A2 because, if an ad-hesive is used, there is a risk that this will loosen and eventually lead to an error message due to environmental factors or vibra-tions.
With plastic windows, you must ensure that recessed sheet screws are not turned to the point where they pierce the metal core, because the magnet's magnetic field will be affected and this will lead to the functioning of the proximity switch being restricted.
The 4 distance plates (figure 3) with 2 different thicknesses are used first for magnetic decoupling from ferromagnetic materi-als and second to guarantee height compensation.
The proximity switch and the magnet are set into the housing.
For the feed cable to the proximity switch, there is a matching recess for the cable guide on the underneath of the housing.
The top of the housing is pressed on to the bottom of the hous-ing from above after mounting. At the same time, the feed ca-ble for the proximity switch is routed underneath. The fixing screws are now concealed.
You can no longer remove the top of the housing after mount-ing without damage.

Bild 4: parallele Montage
Achtung:

Figure 4: parallel mounting
Attention:
The proximity switch and magnet must be installed respectively so that they are parallel without a lateral offset!
Electrical connection
The connecting lead at the proximity switch is 4-wire, see figure
5. The wire pair 1 / 3 is the normally open contact, the actual sensor lead. It closes the electrical circuit and is to be analysed at the binary signal inputs terminated at the door/window.
The wire pair 2 / 4 forms a permanent contact (sabotage loop) and is used for sabotage monitoring.
Figure 5: Wiring diagram
Information:
Before the electrical installation of the proximity switch the wire pairs are according to electrical measuring. The wire pair of 2 / 4 has to be identified with a continuity checker as a sabotage line. The free wire pair has to be correspondingly connected as a sensor line.
Attention:
After mounting has been completed and after electrical connec-tion, the electrical switching function of the proximity switch should be checked (e.g. with continuity checker or multimeter).
V DANGER
• Neither the proximity switch nor the magnet may be in-stalled in ferromagnetic materials. Built-on mounting on ferro-magnetic materials is only permitted if the housing and distance plates are used. You should therefore ensure that there are no ferromagnetic materials close to the mounting site!
• If mechanical force is used, e.g. during mounting, the prox-imity switch or magnets may be damaged.
• Proximity switches are sensitive sensors, which must be stored, maintained and installed with care.
• Under no circumstances should magnets and proximity switches be shortened (cut to fit).
• If the magnet is subjected to considerable heat or vibrations, it will become demagnetised. This may also happen is the magnet is moved into the vicinity of another magnet.
• Cyanacrylate - superglue - should be used as the adhesive for fixing mounted components.
In this context, you should obey the manufacturer's instructions and handling rules.
V DANGER
• The device must be mounted and commissioned by an authorised electrician.
• The relevant safety and accident prevention rules are to be obeyed.
• For planning and construction of electric installations, the relevant guidelines, regulations and standards of the respective country are to be considered.
