About this file

This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that specifies the format and content requirements for a Technical Manual (TM) Book Plan, identified as DI-TMSS-81813A with approval date February 6, 2014. The document is applicable to NAVSEA (Naval Sea Systems Command) and governed by MIL-DTL-24784 or S1000D standards. The TM Book Plan serves as a detailed overview of the proposed scope of a technical manual and must be submitted to the Government program manager for review and acceptance prior to manual development.

The Book Plan submission must include specific components: a cover page with contractor name and address, contract number, TMCR number, TM identification numbers and titles, Document Type Definition/Schema Public Identifier(s), and submittal date. Required sections include a text outline presenting the manual's planned structure (volumes, parts, chapters, sections, etc.) with major paragraphs and estimated page counts; an illustration plan identifying figure numbers, titles, illustration types, color usage, physical and file sizes, and graphic formats; and a table plan with table numbers, titles, content descriptions, and estimated page counts. The Book Plan must demonstrate traceability between task analysis, logistics support analysis, and the approved maintenance plan. For S1000D-developed technical manuals, the text outline must include appropriate Data Module Codes (DMCs) and Publication Module Codes (PMCs). For Technical Repair Standards, the plan must include an overhaul strategy approach with repair process flow chart and identify minimum procedures, testing requirements, and mandatory replacement parts. The plan shall also identify development of hard-copy supplements for materials such as large wiring diagrams, schematics, or classified information needed by fleet users, training commands, and maintenance facilities.
