About this file
This document is a Snowmobile Request Specifications detailing the requirements for a full-sized, deep snow/mountain class snowmobile. The vehicle must weigh less than 450 lbs with maximum dimensions of 52" height and 44" width, include a minimum 9-gallon fuel tank, manual starter with electric assist, push-button reverse with audible alarm, short tunnel, hand guards, brake reservoir protector, and hand/thumb warmers with multiple settings. Additional required features include reversible ice scratchers, spare belt storage capability without folding, fuel injection liquid-cooled motor with minimum 825cc displacement and 180 HP, and a 154" X 16" X 3" track with full rods.
The detailed specifications require high-performance suspension and braking components including RAS 3 (or equivalent) front suspension, HGP Plus (or equivalent) front and track/center shocks, KYB Pro (or equivalent) rear shock, and Brembo (or equivalent) brakes with adjustable lever. The snowmobile must feature an adjustable limiter strap, 34" adjustable ski stance, compact low-profile seat, narrow running boards with large openings, and a belt monitoring system. Selected options to be included are a snowmobile cover, spare belt, and anti-theft deterrent system. The specifications emphasize design features that enable operation on steep slopes exceeding 50%, tight tree stands, and deep powder while maintaining safe power delivery for technical maneuvers including uphill turns, contouring, and switch-backing.

Adherence Explanations
Track length selection of 154” X 16” X 3” (with short tunnel) means the machine is shorter than most deep snow tracks, this means easier maneuvering in technical terrain such as trees on a slope. However, reducing the track length reduces the track to surface area. To compensate for the loss of track surface area, increased horsepower (i.e. turbo) improves low end throttle response which compensates for the shorter track. This throttle responsiveness is throughout the throttle range and can be especially effective at elevations greater than 8,000 feet above sea level.
The adjustable limiter strap allows for increased control in the track suspension. When feathering the throttle during a difficult maneuver, this strap aids in increased power delivery to the ground and thereby avoiding unwanted wheelie situations and providing for a safer ride.
A 34-inch ski stance is a narrow ski width to assist in getting the machine on edge easier (which is necessary for any basic sled maneuver). Working in tandem with a narrow ski stance, full track rods will reduce dangerous wash out (back of the sled dropping downhill when contouring) and increase rider safety.
These features together allow for consistent machine operation on combinations of slopes up to and sometimes greater than 50%, tight cluster tree stands, and snow/powder more than 6 feet. Further, they aid in maintaining the high, smooth, and immediate power delivery necessary to perform technical maneuvers such as uphill blip/90 degree turns, sidehill (contouring) and up/down hill switch-backing.
