About this file

This document is a Performance Work Statement (PWS) Supplement for grounds maintenance services at RAF Lakenheath and Feltwell in the United Kingdom under a federal contract opportunity.

The PWS Supplement outlines additional requirements beyond the overarching IDIQ PWS for grounds maintenance services, including specifics on weed control, lawn conditioning, pest control, ballfield maintenance, surface drainage ditch maintenance, and management of special conservation areas at RAF Lakenheath. It provides detailed instructions on mowing heights, frequency, and techniques required for different zones and vegetation types. The PWS Supplement is intended to be used in conjunction with the main IDIQ PWS for this contract opportunity.

The related federal contract opportunity is a pre-solicitation RFI for UK-wide grounds maintenance services at various United States Visiting Forces (USVF) locations, including RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and other RAF bases. The contractor is expected to provide all personnel, equipment, and supervision to perform a range of grounds maintenance tasks to Air Force standards. This RFI is for information and planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation.

Application of selective weedkiller in areas identified on RAF Lakenheath map is prohibited due to the presence of Red List species and plants protected under S41 of the NERC Act. Herbicide/Pesticide is not to be used on any SSSI areas indicated on the map.

1.8.6.1 *Addition* Management for RAF Lakenheath SSSI areas 2, 3 and 6.

Mowing all the grassland will be rolled and harrowed in the spring. The grassland will be mown with a fine flail cutter to height of 45/50 mm (2 inches) every fourteen days or less from April to

November each year. This mimics grazing by sheep or rabbits and will maintain the range of flora and fauna on site.

Mowing all the grassland will be rolled and harrowed in the spring. The grassland will be cut with a well-maintained cylinder mower followed by a rotary mower to a height of 30-35 mm (1.3 inches) every fourteen days or less from April to November each year.

1.8.6.3 *Addition* Management for RAF Lakenheath SSSI area 4

Mowing - the grassland will be mown for the first time in each calendar year in mid-July or after the wild grape Hyacinth Muscari atlanticum has set seed, whichever is later. The grassland will be subsequently mown every 14 days or less until November in each calendar year.

1.8.6.4 *Addition* RAF Lakenheath Special Species area

The Special Species Area grassland will be mown to height of 45/50 mm (2 inches) every fourteen days or less from April to November each year. This mimics grazing by sheep or rabbits and will maintain the range of flora and fauna on site.
