About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for Inspection, Measuring, and Testing Equipment (IM&TE) Calibration Services dated August 4, 2026, at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC).
The Contractor shall provide calibration and repair services for approximately 5,900 active pieces of IM&TE annually, including electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and optical devices across multiple disciplines: acoustics, pressure/vacuum, chemical analytical, physical/dimensional, temperature, mechanical, and general electronics. Calibration measurements encompass AC/DC current and voltage, resistance, mass, pressure, temperature, flow, humidity, capacitance, inductance, frequency, torque, and dimensional measurements (flatness, length, angle, optical angle, and thread dimensions). The majority of calibrations occur at the Contractor's laboratory, though a percentage must be performed on-site. Subcontracting is permitted with IM&TE Custodian approval, provided Subcontractors comply with specified standards including ISO 9001/ASQC Q9001, ANSI/NCSL Z540.1-1994, ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006, NASA-STD 8739.12, and ANSI/ISO/IEC 17025:2000 accreditation. The Contractor must maintain primary calibration standards one step removed from NIST in electronic and mechanical measurement, with 24-hour notification required upon primary standard certification failure.
Key execution requirements include weekly pickups every Tuesday and Thursday from designated buildings at ARC; emergency calibrations with maximum 24-hour turnaround; maintenance of an Internet-accessible instrumentation database with specified fields and 24/7 access; participation in NASA Measurement Assurance Programs (MAP) and the Metrology and Calibration Working Group (MCWG) at Customer direction; monthly performance reporting; indefinite retention of calibration data and certificates; and provision of soft and hard copy tracking documentation. The Contractor shall notify IM&TE Users via email two months, one month, and one week prior to calibration deadlines, and notify the IM&TE Custodian if instruments are not received within one week of expiration. All instruments receive calibration stickers showing asset number, last calibration date, and next due date, with limited calibration labels identifying scope limitations. Working standards must maintain maximum practical accuracy ratios of no lower than 4:1 unless IM&TE Custodian-approved justification exists. The Contractor warrants good quality workmanship conforming to all requirements, with defective work subject to correction at no additional cost.
