About this file
Summary
This document is a Galveston District FY27 Project Descriptions brief that outlines maintenance dredging requirements across eleven federal navigation projects in Texas coastal waters. The document specifies dredging services, equipment requirements, depths, and material placement areas for each project, with no mention of response dates, award dates, pricing terms, set-asides, or specific contract vehicles.
The projects collectively require a combination of hopper dredges, pipeline dredges, and mechanical dredges capable of dredging to depths ranging from -16 feet MLLW (Channel to Victoria) to -60 feet MLLW (Freeport Harbor). Dredged material placement varies by project but includes multiple disposal options: upland confined areas, open water placement, Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Sites (ODMDS), beneficial use locations (beach and near-shore placement), semi-confined sites, bird islands, and thin-layer seagrass and marsh placement. Transport distances range from direct local placement to 38 miles for ocean disposal (Houston Ship Channel). The eleven projects are: Sabine-Neches Waterway, Galveston Harbor & Channel, Houston Ship Channel, Texas City Ship Channel, Freeport Harbor Channel, Matagorda Ship Channel, Channel to Victoria, Corpus Christi Ship Channel, Brazos Island Harbor Channel, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, and Channel to Harlingen. This appears to be a planning or informational document rather than a solicitation, with accompanying geographic maps for each project area.

Galveston District FY27 Project Descriptions - SDtB
Work for the Sabine-Neches Waterway (SNWW) for maintenance dredging will require a hopper and pipeline/mechanical dredge(s). The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of -42 ft MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area (DMPA).
Dredged material shall be placed in multiple DMPAs depending on the reach to be dredged and DMPA availability. Potential DMPAs include multiple upland placement areas along the SNWW channel, the Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Sites (ODMDS), and beneficial use site locations.
The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies significantly, ranging from direct, local placement to a few miles for the upland placement areas and beneficial use sites, and up to 35 miles for ocean disposal.
Work for the Galveston Harbor & Channel will require a hopper dredge(s) to perform maintenance dredging up to a depth of -48 ft MLLW, with an additional requirement for increased advanced maintenance (new work) dredging to a depth of -51 ft MLLW within a limited portion of the project footprint. The dredge(s) must have the capability to perform this work and transport the dredged sediment up to 24 miles to the designated placement area. Dredged material shall be placed in the Galveston Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS), with potential Beneficial Use placement on Galveston Island.
Work for the Houston Ship Channel for maintenance dredging will require a hopper and pipeline/mechanical dredge(s). The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of -54.5 ft MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area (DMPA).
Dredged material shall be placed in multiple DMPAs depending on the reach to be dredged and DMPA availability. Potential DMPAs include multiple upland placement areas along the Houston Ship Channel and the Galveston Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS). The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies significantly, ranging from direct, local placement to a few miles for the upland placement areas, and up to 38 miles for ocean disposal.
Work for the Texas City Ship Channel for maintenance dredging will require a pipeline or hopper dredge(s). The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of - 48 ft MLLW, with an additional requirement for increased advanced maintenance (new work) dredging to a depth of -51 ft MLLW within a limited portion of the project footprint. The dredge(s) must have the capability to perform this work and transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area (DMPA).
Dredged material can be placed in multiple DMPAs depending on the reach to be dredged and DMPA availability. Potential DMPAs include upland confined placement areas, semiconfined beneficial use sites, and the Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Sites (ODMDS). The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies significantly, ranging from direct, local placement to a few miles for the beneficial use sites, and up to 21 miles for ocean disposal.
Work for the Freeport Harbor Channel for maintenance dredging will require a hopper and pipeline/mechanical dredge(s). The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of -60 ft MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area (DMPA).
Dredged material shall be placed primarily in the Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS) and the upper reach of the channel shall be placed into an upland confined DMPA. The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies, ranging from direct, local placement and up to 6 miles for ocean disposal.
Work for the Matagorda Ship Channel (MSC) for maintenance dredging will require a hopper and pipeline dredge(s). The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of -40 ft MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area (DMPA).
Dredged material shall be placed in multiple DMPAs depending on the reach to be dredged and DMPA availability. Potential DMPAs include multiple open water placement areas along the MSC channel, a semi-confined placement area, the Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Sites (ODMDS), and beneficial use site locations. The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies significantly, ranging from direct, local placement to a few miles for the semi-confined placement area and beneficial use sites. The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies, ranging from direct, local placement and up to 2 miles for ocean disposal.
Work for the Channel to Victoria (CTV) for maintenance dredging will require pipeline dredge(s).
The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of -16 ft MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area
(DMPA).
Dredged material shall be placed in multiple DMPAs depending on the reach to be dredged and DMPA availability. Potential DMPAs include multiple upland placement areas along the CTV channel, and beneficial use site locations. The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies significantly, ranging from direct, local placement to a few miles for the upland placement areas and beneficial use sites.
Work for the Corpus Christi Ship Channel (CCSC) for maintenance dredging will require a hopper
