About this file

This document is a Department of Defense material specification for the ARTC Diamond Quilt Knit (L3), a raw material classified as a knit textile for Army use. The material is currently in process status as of January 30, 2026, under product code AR-MTP-25-229. The fabric is a circular double knit construction composed of 85% cotton and 15% polyester (±3%) in a solid tan color (L:51.82, A:1.37, B:12.48). The fabric shall be supplied in continuous lengths of not less than 50 yards per roll, with rolls identified by face marking and fiber content labeling per Title 16 CFR 303.

The material must meet comprehensive physical and performance specifications including weight of 8.5–10.5 ounces per square yard, air permeability of 70–170 cubic feet per minute, dimensional stability within 12% for courses and 5% for wales after three laundering cycles, and minimum thickness of 0.06 inches. Critical testing requirements include colorfastness to laundering (minimum 3.5 grade), pilling resistance (minimum 1.5 rating), vertical flame resistance with no melt or drip both initially and after five launderings, water vapor transmission rate of at least 1300 minimum per Procedure B, and toxicity compliance per 40 CFR §798.2250 and §798.4100. Defects are defined across 19 categories for Type V knits, including holes, tears, dropped stitches, stains exceeding 1 inch, color mismatches, and poor dye penetration. Conformance inspection sampling shall be 2 units for lots of 800 yards or less, 3 units for 801–22,000 yards, and 4 units for lots exceeding 22,000 yards, with sample units consisting of 5 continuous yards at full width for physical and chemical testing. First article inspection is required, and specifications reference ASTM International, AATCC, and Department of Defense internal test procedures.
