Door frame shall be a factory prefinished steel door frame for field assembly. Factory standard die-cut mitered steel casing is provided with the frame. The frame shall be in compliance with Intertek Warnock Hersey Mark for fire resistant door frames.

D.3 Roll-Down Fire/Smoke Protective Curtains

Install 2-hour fire rated roll-down fire/smoke protective curtains at Foyer (101) and Hall

(103) as indicated the Fisher House Prototype (See Exhibit 1) in accordance to NFPA 80

Chapter 21.

The fire protective smoke curtain shall meet or exceed the following requirements: UL 10D, UL 1784, and UL864.

The smoke curtain device is composed of an opaque glass and steel fabric wound around a roller tube. Cylindrical motors are housed within the roller tubes. The smoke curtain fabric, roller tubes, and cylindrical motors are housed within an 18-gauge galvanized mild-steel headbox/housing. The weighted bottom bar retracts to the underside of the headbox. All headboxes are designed for straight length only.

The smoke curtain shall have a control panels that serves two functions. First, under normal conditions, it powers the cylindrical motors to keep the smoke curtain retracted within the headbox. Second, the control panels causes the smoke curtains to deploy in case of emergency of testing.

Each control panels (CP) requires a local 120 VAC supply rated at 3.775 amps via a dedicated circuit to power the cylindrical motors. For operational purposes the CP must be connected to a normally closed, volt-free contact within the fire alarm control panel or smoke alarm. The roller motors, which are 24 VDC, must be wired from the CP in a radial circuit utilizing 14-2 – gauge cable.

Once the CP receives a signal from the fire-alarm panel or smoke detector, the CP drops the voltage. The weighted bottom bar causes the smoke curtain to deploy by gravity. As such, it is a gravity-fed system. Once the fire alarm signal or smoke detector signal is removed, the smoke curtain automatically retracts into its headbox/housing.

In case permanent building power is lost, the CP contains a battery backup. Thus, the smoke curtains incorporate a fail-safe design.

Fire curtains shall operate simultaneously upon activation of either (1) the smoke detector located in the Foyer, or (2) the smoke detector located in the corridor outside of the
