About this file

This document is a Calibration Standards Specification (CSS) procurement package for a Low Pressure Calibrator (LPC) for use by the Department of the Navy's Metrology and Calibration Program. The specification was prepared by Nelson Dale at Fleet Readiness Center East (MCAS Cherry Point, NC) and is intended for Navy shore-based laboratory use classified as Class 4 equipment (benign, controlled environments).

The LPC must generate and control pressure bi-directionally from -60 to +60 inches of water (InH2O) with stability of ±0.005% or less, with accuracy of ±0.009% of indicated value. The equipment shall include a field-repairable vacuum pump capable of achieving 15 micron or lower vacuum. Key physical requirements include maximum dimensions of 15±3 inches height by 16±3 inches width by 19±3 inches depth, with female NPT pressure connections no larger than 1/4 inch. The equipment must operate at 120 Vrms, single-phase, 60 Hz power and perform automatic diagnostic self-tests at startup. Environmental performance must be maintained across operating temperatures of 10-40°C and non-operating temperatures of -40 to 71°C, with relative humidity from 5-95±5%. The LPC must include a hard transit case with custom foam insert, identification plates with IUID data matrix per MIL-STD-130, and a calibration certificate traceable to NIST with ISO 17025-2017 accreditation. Additional requirements address restricted materials (prohibiting mercury, radioactive materials, and helium-3), preventive maintenance limited to 15 minutes per 30-day period, maintenance provisions allowing non-proprietary tool access, and comprehensive Use and Installation Manuals with Maintenance and Service Manuals.
