About this file

This document is a technical specification for asbestos abatement and hazardous material handling for a total demolition project at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. The project involves removing approximately 150 linear feet of asbestos pipe insulation, 6,600 square feet of asbestos plaster and drywall ceiling textured surfacing, and 25,520 square feet of asbestos plaster and drywall wall textured surfacing. Additionally, the scope includes handling various hazardous materials such as mercury-containing light fixtures, PCB ballasts, lead-acid batteries, air conditioning units with refrigerants, and miscellaneous chemical products.

The abatement work must be performed following strict federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and NESHAP standards. The contractor is required to provide comprehensive safety measures, including establishing regulated work areas, using proper personal protective equipment, implementing decontamination procedures, and ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials. The project requires detailed documentation, air monitoring, and clearance testing to verify the safe removal of asbestos-containing materials before the total demolition of the existing Friendship House and adjacent buildings can proceed.
