EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Objectives and Scope
Pioneer Power Group (PPG) has performed an electrical system study for the new electrical equipment for the Long BCH Util Dept S8 Sewer LS project. This report presents the short circuit, coordination, and arc flash study results for the associated electrical facilities. The following tasks were undertaken to reach the conclusions and recommendations given in this report:
• System Modeling
• Short Circuit Study
• Coordination Study
• Arc Flash Analysis
The responsibility for making changes in the operations, procedures, or for implementing any recommendations in this report is the customer's responsibility.
System Modeling
The electrical distribution system was modeled to best simulate the electrical facilities associated with the Long BCH Util Dept S8 Sewer LS project. Multiple system operating scenarios were simulated to ascertain the worst-case condition with regard to the arc flash analysis. All studies were performed on the basis of the worst-case scenario.
Short Circuit Study
A short circuit study was performed to calculate the available fault current values of the new electrical equipment at the facilities. The results of the short circuit study are used to confirm the withstand ratings of electrical equipment and the interrupting rating of protective devices. The short circuit study results are also subsequently used to perform the coordination study and arc flash analysis. The short circuit study was performed in accordance with IEEE Standard 141-
1993.
March 25, 2026 ES-2 Pioneer Power Group
Protective Device Coordination Study
A protective device coordination study was performed to ascertain the settings of the protective devices for the new electrical equipment at the facilities. A coordination study yields increased equipment protection by ensuring proper device coordination by setting protective devices to trip in sequence, thus increasing continuity of service and limiting the effects of nuisance tripping and disturbances to smaller areas within the distribution system. The coordination study results are also subsequently required for the arc flash analysis. The protective device coordination studies were performed in accordance with IEEE Standard 242-2001.
Arc Flash Analysis
An arc flash analysis was performed to determine the incident energy, arc flash boundary, arc flash
PPE class, and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for performing operation and maintenance of the new electrical equipment at the facilities. An arc flash analysis is required to comply with the arc flash labeling requirements of the applicable NFPA 70E and
NEC standards. The arc flash hazard analysis was performed in accordance with IEEE Standard
1584-2018.
The information produced herein, including equipment labels, is based upon an arc flash study supplied by customer personnel and/or the conditions and practices observed at the time of the site visit. Changes in equipment settings or electrical distribution system configuration made after the date set forth in this report will invalidate the calculated Arc Flash Incident Energy values and may require more personal protective equipment (PPE).

SECTION 2
SYSTEM MODELING
2.01 Overview of System Model
The electrical distribution system for the facilities was modeled and simulated using SKM Power
Tools software. The system model was prepared in accordance with the Contract Drawings, electrical equipment shop drawings, transformer ratings, cable sizes, cable lengths, protective device information, and other distribution equipment based on information obtained by the customer.
For the study purposes, the following assumptions were considered:
• All system voltages were modeled at nominal levels.
• The utility source was modeled as an infinite bus to yield maximum three-phase and single-line-to-ground fault currents at 480V.
• Transformer “XFMR UTILITY” size was assumed to be rated 112.5 KVA based on 200A downstream OCPD.
• Transformer impedance was modeled as 1.5% for most conservative results based on assumed rating.
• CBL-0001, CBL-0002 and CBL-0003 were modeled to be non-magnetic duct material and
THWN insulation.
• CBL-0001 was modeled to be 10 feet in length.
• To ensure conservative arc-flash results – VCBB was chosen as the default bus configuration for all equipment except for any MCC locations. HCB was chosen as the bus configuration for any MCC locations.
• VCB results were also calculated and compared against any VCBB equipment and the worst-case result was reported. Similarly, VCB and VCBB results were calculated and compared against any HCB equipment and the worst-case result was reported.

COORDINATION STUDY
4.01 Overview of Coordination Study
A protective device coordination study is used to ascertain the recommended settings of protective devices within a distribution system. Settings and ampacities are determined by plotting time-current curves (TCC) of the given protective devices. A coordination study will yield increased equipment protection by ensuring proper device coordination by setting protective devices to trip in sequence. This will increase facility reliability and limit the effects of nuisance tripping and disturbances to smaller areas within the distribution system. The coordination study was performed in accordance with the IEEE Standard 242-2001.
4.02 Results of Coordination Study
The settings of the protective devices were ascertained for a condition that allows the facilities to operate successfully. A coordination study was performed and TCCs were plotted to establish protective settings. Figure 4-01 depicts the time-current curves for the studied electrical distribution system. Based on the analysis performed, best possible protective device coordination is achieved. Based on the coordination study for the furnished electrical equipment, the settings for the protective devices can be found in Appendix D.

ARC FLASH ANALYSIS
5.01 Overview of Arc Flash Analysis
An arc flash analysis was performed to determine the incident energy, arc flash boundary, arc flash
PPE class, and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for performing operation and maintenance of the electrical equipment associated with the new facilities. The arc flash analysis is performed on the basis of the results obtained from the short circuit and coordination studies. The arc flash analysis includes the determination of the incident energies at assigned working distances throughout the electrical system and the determination of the arc flash protection boundaries. An arc flash analysis is required for the labeling requirements of NFPA
70E and NEC.
5.02 Arc Flash Analysis Results
The arc flash analysis was performed using IEEE 1584 Standard as described above. Table 5-1 depicts the arc faults, incident energies, arc flash boundaries, and the associated arc flash PPE categories for the electrical equipment.

5 Year Expiration and
Renewal of your Study
NOTICE: 5 Year Expiration and Renewal of your Study
To ensure safety and accuracy for personnel working on electrical systems, NFPA 70E electrical standards recommended to renew an arc flash study every 5 years due to changes in equipment, electrical systems, updates in industry standards and regulations. Keeping the study up-to-date helps maintain compliance and reduces the risk of injury or damage.
Pioneer Power Group believes an Arc Flash Study should be periodically updated for the following reasons:
1. Protect workers: An up-to-date arc flash study provides information to help protect workers from hazardous electrical arc flash incidents.
2. Updating safety standards: Electrical safety standards and codes change over time, and a current arc flash study can ensure that your facility is in compliance with the latest requirements.
3. Changes in equipment or systems: Over time, changes to electrical equipment or systems can greatly affect the results of an arc flash study.
4. Improved accuracy: Technology and calculation methods improve over time, leading to more accurate and up-to-date results from an arc flash study.
