About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the manufacturing requirements for M1 Mirrors for the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The document specifies the procurement of four M1 mirrors for specific beamlines (05.3.2.1, 05.3.2.2, 06.3.2, and 11.3.2), with each mirror requiring fabrication according to detailed technical specifications outlined in referenced documents AL-1778-6137 and AL-1777-2365.
The SOW outlines comprehensive requirements for the subcontractor, including project management, design, fabrication, quality assurance, and shipping of the mirrors. Key deliverables include a kick-off meeting within 2 weeks, monthly progress reports, a Factory Acceptance Test Plan (FATP) within 6 weeks, a final documentation package within 35 weeks, and mirror delivery in Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) compatible boxes by week 39. The subcontractor must maintain strict quality control, provide detailed documentation, and comply with LBNL's technical specifications, with LBNL reserving the right to perform on-site evaluations and accept/reject deliverables based on established acceptance criteria.

5 INTRODUCTION
5.1 Project Overview
ALS-U is an upgrade project to the LBNL ALS. The ALS is a 1.9 GeV storage ring operating at 500 mA of beam current. It is optimized to produce intense beams of soft x-rays, which offer spectroscopic contrast, nanometer-scale resolution, and broad temporal sensitivity.
The ALS facility includes an accelerator complex and photon delivery system that is capable of providing the foundations for an upgrade that will achieve world-leading soft x-ray coherent flux. The existing ALS provides a ready-made foundation, including conventional facilities and also includes extensive beamlines (up to 40 simultaneously operating beamlines) and instrumentation, an experimental hall, computing resources, ancillary laboratories, offices, and related infrastructure that will be heavily utilized in an upgrade scenario.
The ALS will be upgraded with a MBA lattice design that will provide a soft x-ray source that is orders of magnitudes brighter — an up to 100-1000 times increase in brightness — and will provide a significantly higher fraction of coherent light in the soft x-ray region than is currently available at ALS.
Any resulting Subcontract will be between the University and the party identified as the
Subcontractor and will be issued under Prime Contract No. DE-AC02-05CH11231 between the University and the United States, represented by the DoE for the management and operation of LBNL and the performance of research and related work.
5.2 Description of Items
The purpose of this SOW is to define the design and production work required to provide the M1 mirrors for beamlines 05.3.2.1, 05.3.2.2, 06.3.2, and 11.3.2, listed in Table 1.The specification AL-1778-6137 provides all the technical information needed by the
Subcontractor for the M1 mirrors for 05.3.2.1 and 05.3.2.2, while AL-1777-2365 provides all the technical information needed by the Subcontractor for the M1 mirrors for 06.3.2 and 11.3.2.
The required work shall include project management, design for fabrication, fabrication, shipping, and quality assurance activities, as set forth in Sections 0 through 10 herein.
For verifying that the M1 mirrors meet expectations, LBNL will subject the mirrors to ci al ly R el ea se d to th e
