WASTEWATER IMPROVEMENTS CNF
SECTION 02050 - DEMOLITION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1
SCOPE
A. The work consists of the demolition, removal and disposal of existing septic tank and existing septic and leach lines in work areas and other obstructions AS SHOWN ON DRAWINGS and the resulting backfill of trenches, depressions, holes and pits. It shall also include reuse or salvage of designated materials. The site shall be returned to a natural state. The payment work within this Section includes, but is not limited to, the following items:
1. Following thorough sewage pumping work, demolition of existing septic tank in place at Silverado Fire Station. Demolish existing septic tank entirely with the exception of the bottom section of the tank. Septic tank materials, excluding the tank floor shall be removed to at least half the depth of the tank and the remaining walls and floor shall be broken up and left in place. The tank shall be filled to one foot below grade with clean sand. The top 12 inches shall be filled to grade with General Backfill or Aggregate Base material.
2. Demolition, removal and disposal, reuse or salvage of all building components and/or utilities AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS.
3.
Relocating or disconnecting, capping or sealing and abandoning utilities in place.
4.
Disconnecting, capping or sealing, and removing site utilities and/or building utilities.
B. Demolition shall include removal of the structure and utilities. Utilities shall be terminated twelve inches below ground and capped at both ends, unless otherwise noted. All areas shall receive clean imported sand material. The top six inches shall be clean general backfill material and be compacted as described in Section 02220, Earthwork. Site shall be left in a natural state.
1.2
MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A.
No separate measurement and payment will be made for work specified in this section.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS (Not Used)
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 Prior to starting demolition work, the Contractor shall make an inspection with the Contracting Officer’s Representative to determine the physical condition of adjacent improvements scheduled to remain. The Contractor shall exercise caution to minimize disturbance to existing improvements.
3.2 Demolition work shall be performed in such a manner as to ensure the safety of persons working or visiting the area. The use of explosives is prohibited on this project.
3.3 All designated salvageable material shall be removed without unnecessary damage and shall be stored in locations designated by the COR. Carefully remove and store materials indicated to be reused or relocated to prevent damage, and reuse or reinstall as the work progresses.
3.4 Debris resulting from the demolition portion of this project shall be removed from the work site as it accumulates in accordance with Section 01700, Cleanup and Disposal. Keep all pavement areas adjacent to and leading from the site, clean and free of debris at all times.
3.5 All concrete, curbs, footings, slabs, foundations, and asphalt pavement designated for demolition shall be removed to their entire depth or a maximum of twelve inches below natural grade.
3.6 Fill material shall be placed in depressions resulting from the removal of foundations and the like. Backfill shall be compacted in accordance with Section 02220, Earthwork. Sites shall be graded smooth to blend in with proposed or existing contours and shall be free draining.
3.7
UTILITY DEMOLITION
A.
All utility improvements designated to be abandoned AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS and that interfere with the installation of new utilities shall be removed.

Above ground water and/or sewer lines, and appurtenances which are to be removed shall be removed to a point that is a minimum of twelve inches below ground and capped at both ends.
2.
Underground water and/or sewer line which are to be abandoned shall provide a radial clearance of three feet from the point where the new waterline connects to existing water system.
B. Upon encountering any utility NOT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, the Contractor shall immediately notify the Contracting Officer.
3.8
PROTECTION OF SENSITIVE RESOURCE AREAS AND ADJACENT TREES
A. Existing trees and vegetation adjacent to the demolition areas shall be protected against any unnecessary damage in accordance with Section 02210, Site Clearing.
