Project Description: Dispersed vehicle campsite and user-created roads and trails adjacent to Miller Creek Road 464. Full size vehicles are fording the creek in multiple locations to pioneer new camping/party areas and drive into the wet meadows west of the creek. Users have established a 1000-foot section of unauthorized road with ruts up to 18 inches deep to access the meadows. Erosion is occurring and the stream channel has lost its sinuosity.
Contractor shall restore approximately 1000 feet of user-created road by scarification, seeding, mulching, and obliterating with slash to eliminate erosion and riparian area damage. Restore channel sinuosity and habitat complexity over approximately 100-foot length of stream bank and rehab three unauthorized stream crossings to eliminate erosion. Move vehicle parking and access to dispersed camping sites back to the road by barricading area next to stream and delineating parking area with up to 40 boulders to protect creek. Barricade using approximately10 boulders and slash user-created trail on the east side of the road that runs adjacent to Miller Creek through riparian areas; scarify, slash, seed approximately 1000 feet of area to eliminate off-road driving and erosion; restore approximately 300 feet of stream channel on the south side of site by rehabing user-created trail using approximately four boulders for barricades (the stream channel runs down one of the tracks). ATVs and full-size vehicles have also breached existing barricades on roads with travel restrictions off of Road 464. Barricade three separate road systems using approximately 12-15 boulders to prevent unauthorized access to 3.72 miles of road, prevent damage to roadbed surfaces, protect water quality, and ensure wildlife security; 2.08 miles of road runs adjacent to Miller Creek.
Government-furnished Supplies/Equipment: Onsite trees/vegetation are available for transplanting.
Grass seed will be furnished by the Government.
Work to be Completed:
Scarify, seed, mulch and slash approximately 9000 SF of unauthorized road Scarify, seed and slash approximately 5000 SF of unauthorized trail Restore approximately 400 LF of stream channel Rehab 3 unauthorized stream channel trail crossings Install approximately 29 boulder barricades Move vehicle parking area (including obliteration of existing unauthorized parking area) Install 4 treated 4X4 sign posts mailto:sberon@fs.fed.us mailto:jblackburn@fs.fed.us
