Restoration of Disturbed Sites Sample Project 1.5
ITEM 1.5 Copper Ridge
Location: The Copper Ridge site is located near Lookout Pass on the West Side of the Superior Ranger District.
Access to Site: Take the Lookout Mountain ski area exit off of Interstate – 90 on the Idaho / Montana boarder. Follow Forest Service Road 4208 to the Copper Lake Trailhead. Approximately, 40 yards before the trailhead (North) an old jeep trail merges with Road 4208. The work to be accomplished is on this jeep trail. Refer to map for more specific task locations. The upper section of the old jeep trail is where restoration efforts will take place on (refer to red highlighted area on map) and is approximately .65 miles from Road 4208; the bottom portion of the trail is to be left alone.

Project Description: Currently, motorized use is unauthorized on the old Copper Ridge jeep trail. This use primarily generates from Idaho onto the Montana side of the trail. The route is not suitable for motorized use because of numerous impacts on the resources such as erosion, wildlife impacts, noxious weed infestation, and inventoried roadless area intrusion. An additional route braids off the main stem leading to a lake. This route is mostly grown in with alder but motorized use is pioneering, without authorization, closer to the lake. The additional route is not suitable for motorized use.
Objective: The contractor is to effectively barricade the unauthorized motorized trail at the top (on the Idaho/Montana boarder) and bottom (at the identified junction) access points; barricade at the beginning of the additional route leading to the lake; mitigate erosion concerns; de-compact the unauthorized route surface; establish a diverse vegetative cover on route’s prism consisting of trees and grasses; treat noxious weeds; break up visual impacts caused by unauthorized motorized use, and install treated sign posts.
Government-furnished Supplies/Equipment: Onsite trees for transplanting. Grass seed will be furnished by the Government.
Work to be Completed: Offeror is to submit a proposed treatment. The proposal shall include a description of what types of restoration efforts would be done, the type/size/amount of equipment that would be used, staffing, materials, supplies, and a price for the proposed treatment.
