BIDDER QUESTIONS:
These questions and clarifications are for information only and do not form part of the contract documents.
1. Does the pipe under 582 Etowah Drive (Sheet P-04) require grout filling?
Answer: Yes. See revised Sheet P-04 included with this addendum.
2. Can the plan holders list be provided?
Answer: Yes. See attached plan holder list as of this addendum.
3. With the recent holidays, a bid date extension of 1 week would help everyone provide you with their best numbers possible for a project of this size. Can this be granted?
Answer: This bidder question was responded to in Addendum 1. The Bid Opening Date is
Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 10:00 AM (local time).
4. Can static burst allowed as the spec only references pneumatic. The 10” HDPE line on Sheet P-
04 will require a static machine due to the HDPE.
Answer: See revised specification 02720: PIPE BURSTING SEWER REPLACEMENT -
ADDENDUM 2.
5. Are there any roads that cannot be shut down during the construction?
Answer: The Contractor shall be responsible for obtaining and properly implementing all required lane/street closure permits and detours/signage. The Contractor shall maintain access to hospital facilities at all times.
6. Can the maximum payment width for trench rock removal equal to the nominal pipe diameter plus 24” be increased as this will not cover what is required to safely excavate and shore the trench. At a minimum, we will need to cut a 4’ wide trench where shoring is required.
Answer: The maximum payment width shall equal the greater of (a) the nominal pipe diameter plus 24 inches, or (b) 4 feet.
7. Can the maximum payment width for asphalt replacement equal to the nominal pipe diameter plus 48” be increased as this will not cover what is required to safely excavate and shore the trench. At a minimum, we will need to cut a 4’ wide trench where shoring is required then when you add the 12” over cuts on each side, this will require a 6’ wide trench cap and patch.
Answer: The maximum payment width shall equal the greater of (a) the nominal pipe diameter plus 48 inches, or (b) 6 feet.
8. The City Road asphalt replacement detail shows backfilling with Sand or GAB. If the soils removed are adequate to achieve minimum compaction requirements, can we backfill with the dirt removed from the trench?
Answer: No. Backfill within paved areas (including under pavement and within limits of pavement restoration) shall be GAB. Reuse of excavated soil is not permitted in paved areas unless specifically approved in writing by the Engineer.
9. Will PreCCTV & cleaning be required for the entire project or just for the sections to be pipe burst?
Answer: Pre-construction CCTV and cleaning will only be required for the sections of existing sewer that are to be replaced with new pipe in the proposed project, including proposed pipe burst and open-cut sections.
10. Is IPS or DIPS approved for the HPDE on this project?
Answer: See revised specification 02720: Pipe Bursting Sewer Replacement Addendum 2 requiring DIPS OD.
11. Can the location of the existing manhole upstream of proposed manhole #25 be identified for suction? This is on the existing line that runs through the property identified as “NOW OR
FORMERLY GREAT SOUTHERN REALTY, LLC.”.
Answer: According to the BLW Asset Map, the existing manhole upstream of proposed MH #25 is Ex-SSMH #400943 (ref: proposed MH # 28 on Sheet P-02).
12. Can mill and overlay curb to curb be included to the work on Avery, Wellons, Pine, and Etowah?
With the depths of these lines, the patches will be 7-9’ wide. And with most of these road having newer asphalt and pronounced crowns, patching will be difficult.
Answer: The Bid Form quantity for Asphalt Paving is revised to 6,100-SY to incorporate possible curb-to-curb mill and overlay if approved during construction by the Engineer. See revised specification 00300 BID FORM - ADDENDUM 2.
