PROJECT No. AH-000-200-001 Design and Construction of a Fire Alarm and Mass Notification System
Maryland School for the Deaf – Columbia Campus
PROJECT COST CLASSIFICATION: “E” - ($2,500,000 - $5,000,000)
CALENDAR DAYS TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT:
486 Calendar Days from NTP to Substantial Completion 530 Calendar Days Overall from NTP to Approval by the Office of the State Fire Marshal
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
Question #1: Please confirm total number of users that will utilize the application after completion:
Answer #1: 250 – 350 people is a good estimate for the number of users.
Question #2: Please confirm the total number of end points (laptops, tablets, TV’s, etc.) that will be connected to the system.
Answer #2: Not including message boards, MSD estimates 650 devices.
Question #3: Please confirm all existing TV’s are capable of 3rd party interfaces.
Answer #3: There are currently 4 TV’s that are similar to the existing TV at the Benson Gym on the Frederick Campus. However MSD will be expanding that number to 7 TV’s over the next 6 months. The Design should plan for 7 TV’s and interfaces.
Question #4: Can we schedule another site visit for completing the design? We may have conflicts with the provided drawings and we may need to investigate further.
Answer #4: Additional site visits may be scheduled for investigation. Additional drawings for reference will be issued.
Question #5: Due to the complexity of this project and the Design requirements we would like to request additional time for preparing our design and bid submission?
Answer #5: So far only one Bidder has requested an extension of the Bid Due Date. Per the Bid documents the Design is to be completed by the Design-Builder awarded the contract. The Design is required to be obtained from a Maryland licensed Fire Protection Engineer and reviewed by the Owner.
Question #6: Can I request the latest Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Inspection reports for all three buildings?
Answer #6: The current reports will be issued.
Question #7: What are the working hours during the school year and are weekends allowed?
Answer #7: This is a very complex issue to be scheduled. The work cannot be performed in classrooms and other spaces when occupied by students. Spaces such as IT Closets, Mechanical and Electrical Rooms are available with reasonable noise limits (hammer drill use) when adjacent to occupied areas. The Denton and Steiner buildings would be available all night on weekdays and all day weekends. The Baker building is available Friday night through Sunday mid-afternoon. Pulling cable can be performed in hallways during teaching periods but must be paused at break periods between classes. The School will work with the Design-Builder to accommodate the project the best they can over the school year. The Columbia Campus calendar is available on the website.
Question #8: Can you provide any CAD file or architectural drawing for all three buildings?
Answer #8: Additional Fire Alarm update drawings will be issued for reference.
