About this file
This document is an addendum for the Chicopee Armory Rehabilitation project being undertaken by the Massachusetts Army National Guard (MAANG). The project involves the rehabilitation of the Chicopee Armory facility located in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The addendum makes changes to the contract drawings and specifications, including updates to the table of contents, specifications, and various drawings. Key changes include the addition of new specification sections for penetration firestopping, access doors and frames, domestic water heat exchangers, HVAC power ventilators, split-system air conditioners, and convectors. The addendum also provides clarifications and responses to questions from bidders following the pre-bid walkthrough.
The contract includes a base bid as well as several bid alternates, including the replacement of the boiler. The project has an estimated construction start date of September 1, 2011 and a duration of 4-6 months. Contractors are required to acknowledge receipt of this addendum on the bid form, and failure to do so could result in the bid being deemed non-responsive. The intent is for the project to be competitively bid by general contractors, with the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades being bid separately.

PART III – CLARIFICATIONS, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
The following questions were raised by bidders following the 06/28/11 Pre-Bid Walkthrough.
1. Clarifications to Addendum No. 1:
a. Page 1 of 7: Part I, item 1b added section 07 72 00 to the Table of Contents. This section was included in Addendum No. 1 and intended to be included in its entirety as part of the project.
b. Page 6 of 7: Part II, item 16, c provides an added detail reference of K5. This reference should actually be A5.
c. Page 7 of 7: The following plumbing sketches were inadvertently omitted from the list identified on page 7 of 7 of Addendum No. 1. However, these sketches were included and should be considered part of Addendum No. 1: P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4, P-5.
2. Are we to include section 084113 Entrances/Storefronts as part of bid package 080001 metal windows? Please confirm. If so, do we include hardware for aluminum doors?
Ans: No.
3. Advise if section 084113 material would also have to meet anti-terrorism performance criteria.
Ans: Yes. See modifications to section 08 51 13 above.
4. Are we responsible the window barriers shown on sketch A3 in addendum #1? If yes, is there a spec for these?
Ans: Yes. No specification section is provided beyond the criteria identified on the sketch and as provided in Addendum #1, Part 2, Item 8 - AE201, Revision to Key Note
1.
5. What are the construction start and end dates for this project?
Ans: Contractor shall assume a 09/01/11 start date. Duration of construction has been assumed as 4-6 months. In no case shall construction period services run longer than six months from the start date.
6. Drawing EP102 shows new duct smoke detectors to be installed in the make-up air units.
Where does the wiring for these detectors originate? The drawings do not show an existing fire alarm control panel or a new panel.
Ans: It was intended that the duct smoke detectors shown for MAU-1, -2, -3 be used for shutdown of the MAU's; however, since the CFM of the MAU's is lower than mandated by code to have auto shutdown upon duct smoke detection, they have been deleted from.
See electrical sketches.
7. Addendum – 1 Drawing E-1, note-14 calls for saw cutting the existing foundation. New electric service conduits and a telephone conduit are to be installed into the existing building.
Is the GC responsible to perform the saw cutting?
Ans: Yes, the GC is responsible for this work. The intent of Div. 22, 23 and 26 filed
SMRT No. 10090-00 Addendum No. 2 Page 9 of 11 sub-bids is that the General Contractor is to carry cutting, patching, trenching, backfilling, painting and concrete work (pads, foundations, duct bank, etc.) required to perform the trade work. The trade contractors shall carry fire stop and access doors.
8. Door schedule AE611 calls for four 3-5" doors. Elevation F1 and floor plan show two single and one pair. Hardware set #1 is also for single doors. Are center doors a pair with a removable mullion?
Ans: Yes.
9. 084113 2.5 calls for medium stile doors. Door 109 on the door schedule is calling for a type
C door which would be either hollow metal or flush aluminum based on the elevation shown on AE611. Please clarify.
Ans: Provide flush aluminum per drawing AE611. Disregard medium stile statement in section 08 41 13 per clarifications above.
10. 084113 2.5 calls for medium stile doors with 3-1/2" rails. Elevation B on AE611 is showing
6" stiles. Which is correct?
Ans: Disregard medium stile statement in section 08 41 13 per clarifications above.
11. Please clarify the scope of painting in Assembly Hall 110:
a. If the north wall of 110 is “ETR”, but the north wall of Corridor 112 is painted, where do we stop painting? It’s the same wall.
Ans: Paint the entire north wall per AE601 drawing clarifications above.
b. If the north wall of 110 should be painted, should we also paint the east wall?
Ans: Yes. See AE601 drawing clarifications above.
c. Currently, there is glazed block wainscoting at all walls. Is this existing to remain, or will it be painted? If painted, please provide a paint system for glazed block.
Ans: Clean the block only. Do not paint.
d. Currently, there is a very large mechanical unit/duct in each corner of the room. The demo plans don’t indicate they are removed. Are they scheduled to be painted?
Ans: Paint each. See mechanical scope for modifications to unit in the SE corner.
12. The RFS calls for painting the east wall of Boiler Room 119. This room is currently unpainted. Please confirm that the east wall will be painted under the base bid.
Ans: Do not paint the east wall. See AE601 drawing clarifications above.
13. Please clarify whether Alternate #4 adds any painting to Boiler Room 119.
14. Detail E1/AE401 shows plywood at the floor of the mechanical platform above the new team rooms. Please clarify whether the plywood needs to be painted.
SMRT No. 10090-00 Addendum No. 2 Page 10 of 11
15. At existing walls to be painted, please clarify whether the existing doors and frames are also painted.
Ans: Do not paint stained wood doors and frames. Do paint hollow metal doors and frames.
16. Section 081113 Hollow Metal Doors and Frames, Pg. 4, 2.4, B, 4 calls for factory priming, but Pg. 6, 2.8, B calls for a two coat baked-on factory finish. Please clarify whether hollow metal doors and frames are field painted or factory finished.
Ans: Doors and frames to be factory primed and finished. See clarifications to section
08 11 13 above.
17. Section 081416 Flush Wood Doors, Pg. 1, 1.2, A, 2 says factory finishing is included in the section. Pg. 4, 2.5 says that doors are primed with stain and a first coat as per Section
099300. Please clarify whether new wood doors are factory finished or field finished.
Ans: New wood doors and frames to be shop finished. See clarifications to section 08 14
16 above.
18. There are existing steel angles visible at the exterior side of the windows. Please clarify whether these angles should be prepped and painted, and if so, whether the work would occur under the base bid or Alternate #2.
Ans: Prep and paint the angles as part of Alternate #2.
19. Specification 072100, Thermal Insulation, does not specify the thickness of the roof insulation. Drawing AE501 states that the minimum insulation thickness is 2”. What thickness is required?
Ans. Roof insulation is tapered with a minimum thickness of 2" and a slope of minimum 1/4" / ft. to drain. Thickness of insulation varies at ridges.
