About this file

This is Addendum No. 1 to a Request for Proposal issued by the Town of Killingly, Connecticut for NH78 Acetal Material Chain, Shear Pin Sprockets, and Chain Take-Up Assemblies for wastewater clarifier equipment. The addendum clarifies acceptable materials, component configurations, and design alternatives. Key clarifications include: the Town will accept 304 stainless steel hubs in place of 316 stainless steel (with both options to be quoted); nylon sprockets with chain-saver rims are acceptable as alternatives to urethane; the full-thread stainless steel bolt design for tensioners is acceptable in lieu of the original 410 stainless roll pin configuration; the Town prefers stainless-steel green corrosion-resistant heavy-duty trip pins; and the Town declines pricing for one frame size larger gearmotors at this time. The vendor questions and answers period runs through April 11, 2026 at 2:00 PM EDT, with sealed proposals due April 21, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Office of the Town Engineer, Killingly Town Hall, 172 Main Street, Killingly, CT 06239.

TOWN OF KILLINGLY

Request for Proposal For NH78 Acetal Material Chain, Shear Pin Sprockets & Chain Take-Up Assemblies

ADDENDUM NO. 1

Purpose of Addendum

This Addendum is issued to clarify acceptable materials, component configurations, and potential design. This addendum is made part of the bid documents. All bidders shall review and incorporate the following into their proposals as applicable.

Please provide us an answer to the below question:

Question:

1. For the shear pin hubs, the supplier believes the hardware/bolts are 316 stainless steel and the hub itself is 304 stainless steel. They also noted that the currently specified design appears to be an older design. In their experience, the older nylon hubs had a tendency to deform when shear pins broke, and keyways could also fail. Their metal hub design was developed to eliminate those issues. Do you have issues with this design change?

They also recommended the nylon sprockets they quoted. According to the supplier, these are stronger than urethane alternatives and include a chain-saver rim. They mentioned that many customers prefer these over the plastic style originally described.

For the tensioners/Takeups, they confirmed theirs are the same as shown in the drawings. The only design change is that they have replaced the 410 stainless roll pin with a 5/16" x 3" full-thread bolt. Their view is that this makes installation and removal easier, since it can be handled with a 9/16" nut driver on a drill. That said, if you prefer the original roll pin arrangement, they can still supply it that way.

Response:

We will accept the above-mentioned substitutions. Please quote both so we can compare.

Please let us know your preference on the following items so we can finalize the quote:

Question:

1. Whether 304 stainless hubs are acceptable in place of 316.

Response:

We will accept the substitution. However please quote both so we can compare.

Question:

1. Whether you would like green trip pins or the standard silver trip pins Response:

We would prefer the stainless-steel green corrosion resistant heavy duty, high strength trip pins.

Question:

1. Whether you want to keep the updated full-thread bolt design on the tensioners or prefer the original roll pin.

Response:

The full-thread stainless steel bolt design is acceptable.

Question:

1. Whether you would like us to price the option for one frame size larger gearmotors.

Response:

Not at this time.
