1.1.1 Project Buildings:
Description Quarters Numbers Building Size
6-Unit Duplex Bldg.(s)
#294/1-6
Approx. 672 ft2 Each
The Duplex units are single story wood frame structures built in 1963 (54 years old). Interior walls and ceiling are textured, and painted wallboard finish and exterior walls are wood frame cover with plywood wall sheathing, vapor barrier, stucco netting and finished with three-coat stucco system. Later, as energy conservation project a 2-inch rigid polystyrene insulation board, fiberglass netting and a layer of synthetic stucco was applied over the original wall assembly. The floors are slab on grade and plywood sheathing covered with vinyl floor tile. Fiberglass batt insulation is installed in the wall cavity and in the attic area and there is no insulation under the floor. There is typical water and gas piping and electrical system in the project houses. Heating system consists of gas-fired forced air furnace and duct routed to each room. There is concrete driveway from the street to garage and sidewalk to the concrete landing and steps at front entry and concrete pad at back door. Propane is used on this campus which is supplied by the BIE Highschool. Aerial electric lines provide power to the housing area which is supplied by the Arizona Public Service (APS) in Phoenix. The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) services of the BIE units with water and sewer. Government-owned underground utilities include water distribution system, sewer drain lines and sewer lagoons. Aerial telephone and cable TV service cables are attached to the buildings; coordinate with providers of these services for temporary removal of their cables as needed during renovation work. Bureau- owned fire alarm pull stations and buried cables may exist within the campus housing area. It appears the pull stations have been removed and the buried cables have been abandoned in place. Coordinate with School Facility Maintenance staff to locate underground utilities as needed, consult with Zelma Paddock, Housing Manager with Tuba City Boarding School.
