About this file

This document is a reference guide for herbicide formulations approved for use on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administered lands, effective December 27, 2024. It establishes maximum allowable application rates per acre per year for 31 herbicide active ingredients commonly used in land management operations.

The guide specifies for each herbicide the sample trade name, formulation type and quantity, and maximum active ingredient (a.i.) or acid equivalent (a.e.) that may be applied annually. Notable entries include glyphosate at 7.0 pounds a.e., 2,4-D for woody species at 4.0 pounds a.e., triclopyr at 8.0 pounds a.e., and diuron at 20.0 pounds a.i. The document includes three explanatory notes: Note #1 indicates that certain herbicides have different maximum rates based on application situation (rangeland versus noncropland); Note #2 addresses herbicides with multiple formulation concentrations, requiring users to ensure applied product quantity equals intended active ingredient amounts; and Note #3 specifies restrictions for aquatic applications of flumioxazin, limiting concentration to 400 parts per billion and restricting retreatment of the same water section to no more than six times per year. This document serves as a compliance reference for BLM personnel and contractors conducting vegetation management on federal lands.
