December 2024 Acquisition Strategy Update
• In December, 2024 NASA announced a shift in acquisition strategy wherein NASA will provide transportation for missions associated with NASA services (Crew and Cargo) for an initial period, followed by a transition to end-to-end services as originally proposed
• The baselined documents discussed here were written to support end-to-end services, and are fully applicable to that time period
• NASA is developing guidance for the initial NASA-provided Transportation time period (TBS)
• This will include a new Interface Requirements Document (IRD) to enable compatibility of commercial Destinations with NASA-provided transportation services which will be primarily based on existing certified Crew and Cargo vehicles. The development of the IRD will investigate opportunities for interoperability of transportation vehicles between ISS and commercial Destinations.
