How can industry help?
1. Hulls/ Prop/ Hub- Fiberglass, Steel, Aluminum, Hatch Covers, Mast, Corrosion prevention (all areas).
2. Mechanical –Turbine, Propulsion Engines, Shafting and Seals, Generators, Compressor, Weight handling equipment.
3. Electrical – Engine controllers, Spot lights, Switch Boards, Power Panels, Alarm Panels, Gauges, Motor Controllers, Electrical Pumps.
4. Navigation/Electronic – Radar, Radios, Crew communication, Depth Sounders, Global Positioning.
I won’t read through this slide, but the purpose is to show you where you might be able to help us. As you can imagine, there are many systems that we maintain and track to ensure our vessels are ready to answer the call and perform the mission.

LREPL Top Initiatives & Opportunities
WMSL Deployment Based Maintenance Optimization
Industry outreach in Honolulu and Charleston to add more qualified bidders to bid on WMSL work
Integration of Hull, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Systems/Components
POLAR STAR Service Life Extension Project (Estimated Start Date FY19)
HEALY Midlife Maintenance Availability
(Estimated Start Date FY22)
This slide illustrates some areas that we are focusing on to give you a flavor for the type of work that drives us.
The first 2 bullets deal w/ getting the most out of our $$ for our newest, most capable asset, the National Security Cutters or WMSLs. We need to maximize the # of days these vessels operate, but maintain them as well so we can achieve the 30 years of service we expected when we purchased them.
We have been working hard to bring everything into alignment from configuration, to maintenance, to parts provisioning and stocking in our logistics systems. This effort, known as integration, has served to better inform us of our availability degraders and cost drivers and also where we might be vulnerable on the maintenance front.
Finally, our icebreakers are due for some intense maintenance periods. We are planning on a Limited Service Life Extension Project (SLEP) for PSTAR and a midlife availability aboard HEALY (our Medium Icebreaker) to refresh systems.
