The Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) is the single logistics center for the Coast Guard fleet, providing engineering, supply, maintenance and industrial services to 245 cutters and over 1,400 boats stationed throughout the United States. The Product Lines are the SFLC’s direct interface with commanding officers in the fleet, and provide 24/7 logistics services for all cutters and boats assigned to their responsibility.
From its inception, SFLC was charged with implementing the “Coast Guard Logistics Model” in the surface fleet. The objective of the model is to drive toward “affordable readiness,” where SFLC maintains assets at an optimal level of “Materiel Availability” (Am), and knows what it costs to operate each hull, enabling it to make appropriate expenditures within its planned maintenance budget. Implementation is guided by the 4 Cornerstones of Integration:
• Product Line Organization
• Configuration Management
• Bi-Level Maintenance
• Total Asset Visibility
