About this file
This document is an attachment to a federal contract solicitation (SIR No. 693KA8-26-R-00003) that specifies firearms qualification requirements and procedures for FAA contract security officers.
FAA contract security officers must qualify with firearms at least annually using either the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) course of fire or a state-prescribed course that meets or exceeds DHS standards. Officers must qualify with their assigned handgun (identified by serial number) using the same ammunition type carried on duty, while wearing all assigned duty equipment including holster, magazine pouches, belt keepers, flashlight, handcuffs, OC spray, baton, and other gear. Qualification must occur on a recognized law enforcement range or approved alternative range under supervision of a certified firearms instructor, with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and local Administrative Technical Representative (ATR) notified in advance. The DHS course of fire requires officers to fire 50 rounds across seven stages at distances ranging from 1.5 to 15 yards, using various shooting positions (strong hand only, two-handed, one-handed, kneeling, and barricade positions) with a minimum qualifying score of 200 points out of 250 possible points (80%). The document includes a certification form signed by both the security officer and certified firearms instructor documenting the qualification date, firearm specifications, ammunition type, course of fire used, and final score achieved.
