About this file

This document contains answers to technical questions regarding a federal construction contract opportunity with the National Park Service in Alaska. The contract involves repairing two bridges on the Denali Park Road, replacing a concrete box culvert at milepost 52, and conducting rockfall mitigation including scaling, installing dowels and bolts at milepost 52.9. The work must be completed in fall 2020 with an estimated price range of $2-3 million. The document provides clarification that no coating is required for new sheet piles or the king pile, and that the anticipated maximum heights for general and intensive scaling operations are approximately 300 feet. Details regarding dimensions of camp spaces and energy estimates for temporary rockfall barriers are to be addressed in future amendments. Stationing of pile driving cranes will depend on contractor operations.

# General Technical Question Answer Date 1 X Bid Item A0240 refers to railroad ties. Drawing B.1 shows it as well under

Section G, Geotechnical Details. Could you clarify this, I don’t see railroad ties on the drawings or provided photos.

Will Be addressed under Amendment A002 20‐Apr‐21

2 X Do you have the sheet pile designation of the existing Toklat River Bridge sheet pile where we are to fasten the king pile to it, shown on G.17?

No, please bid accordingly 20‐Apr‐21

3 X Is there any coating required on the sheet pile or king pile that we are to provide and install per G.17

No, please bid accordingly 20‐Apr‐21

4 X The completion date is predicated on a July 1 NTP date, with a performance period of just over 2 months. Would it be possible to get a limited NTP earlier to start procurement on fabricated steel and concrete items?

No, please bid accordingly 20‐Apr‐21

5 X What is the height of the highest General Scaling Limit for the scaling operation?

(As depicted on SHEET NUMBER G2 ‐ G14) the anticipated max vertical height (from the existing roadway elevation) for the General Scaling is approximately 300 feet.

22‐Apr‐21

6 X What is the height of the highest Intensive Scaling Limit for the scaling operation?

(As depicted on SHEET NUMBER G2 ‐ G14) the anticipated max vertical height (from the existing roadway elevation) for the General Scaling is approximately 300 feet.

22‐Apr‐21

7 X Division 100 Section 107.12 Page E‐21

Toklat Road Camp: What are the dimensions for the 8 spaces with power and 8 spaces without power at Toklat Road Camp?

The dimensions of the spaces will be dependent on the contractors proposed configuration of the construction camp/housing facility. See SCR 107.12.

Please bid appropriately.

Check General or Technical

8 X For 65602‐0000 TEMPORARY ROADWAY ROCKFALL PROTECTION

We don’t see the energy estimate in either foot tons or kilo Joules that describes the kinetic energy these scaled rocks may impact the barrier with.

Could you provide the energy and bounce height estimates for the temporary barrier?

Will Be addressed under Amendment A003 3‐May‐21

9 X Sheet Number G 15. Was it anticipated from design for the pile driving crane to be stationed on the road way for installation of the sheet piles?

Stationing of the driving crane during Installation of the sheet pile is dependent upon the contractors anticipated operations. Please bid accordingly.

3‐May‐21

10 X Is there a profile sheet for the install of the new sheet piles? No, please bid accordingly 3‐May‐21
