1.3 STATEMENT OF BID ITEM(S)
PHASE 1 CONSTRUCTION PACKAGE (BASE BID):
A. General Construction: Work includes excavation, fencing, soil preparation and reseeding of lawn for the addition of direct-buried pipe from the Boiler Plant, Bldg. 320, to the interior of Hospital, Bldg. 500, in the Basement Interstitial Space. Two asphalt roads will be crossed, requiring cutting, excavation and repair to the original condition. The excavation for the direct-buried pipes will require the removal of several trees. Provide concrete manholes at steam trap locations and pipe offsets. Some areas of the pipe routing will be in a walk-thru tunnel, underground Pump Room, Hospital Interstitial Space and above a dropped ceiling at the Hospital Loading Dock. Once the new pipe system is operational, defunct piping will be removed from the underground tunnel between buildings 320 and 310.
B. Electrical Construction: Work includes manhole lighting and receptacle.
The factory-insulated pipe will require power at the Boiler Plant for the Rovanco moisture monitoring system.
C. Mechanical Construction: Work includes the addition of an 8” High Pressure Steam main and a Pumped Condensate mains (4” to 6”), direct-buried from the Boiler Plant, Bldg. 320, to the interior of the
Hospital, Bldg. 500, at the Basement Interstitial Space. Existing underground utilities that interfere with the new pipe routing will require offsetting. After the new piping is operational, remove the existing underground steam and condensate piping in the tunnel between buildings 320 and 310, at the loading dock ceiling, and in the tunnel between buildings 310 and 314. Steam traps will be located at a maximum distance of 200 feet. Rovanco, the prefabricated pipe manufacturer will provide piping system design, including expansion anchors and expansion loops and compensators.

2. The lines shall not be capped in finished areas, but shall be removed and sealed, capped or plugged in ceilings, within furred spaces, in unfinished areas, or within walls or partitions; so that they are completely behind the finished surfaces.
K. To minimize interference of construction activities with flow of Medical Center traffic, comply with the following:
1. Keep roads, walks and entrances to grounds, to parking and to occupied areas of buildings clear of construction materials, debris and standing construction equipment and vehicles. Wherever excavation for new utility lines cross existing roads, at least one lane must be open to traffic at all times (routing plan must be approved by COR and/or the Police Department).
2. Method and scheduling of required cutting, altering and removal of existing roads, walks, and entrances must be approved by the COR.
L. Coordinate the work for this contract with other construction operations as directed by COR. This includes the scheduling of traffic and the use of roadways, as specified in Article, USE OF
ROADWAYS.
M. No materials or supplies shall be delivered to any of the employee loading docks. If they get delivered to any of the docks, they can be sent away with no responsibility to the VA. These items shall only be delivered to the contractor's staging and lay-down area such as a job site trailer. The contractor must be available to accept delivery. VA staff absolutely will not sign for contractor's supplies and materials.
01 00 00-11
P. Contractor shall hold weekly construction meetings on-site at a location to be determined by the COR. Contractor shall provide computer generated minutes of all meetings and shall distribute minutes to all participants within two (2) working days after said meeting. Electronic submission of minutes is required in addition to one hard copy to the COR.
Q. Daily logs shall be electronically submitted on a daily basis to the COR for all construction personnel, all materials brought on-site that day, work performed on that day, the weather for the day including temperature, precipitation (form and amounts) sunny, cloudy, windy or calm as well as any contacts made that day.
