About this file

This document is an Addendum No. 2 issued by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for the QUINCY Federal Aid Project No. STP/TAP-0036(016)X Reconstruction of Sea Street. The addendum transmits changes to the contract documents in response to a contractor's question regarding the substitution of a 24-strand fiber optic cable for the 30-pair copper wire interconnect cable specified in the original contract documents. The response indicates that the contractor must bid as specified in the contract documents, but alternative construction methods may be submitted during the shop drawings review process for approval by the District Construction Engineer's office.

The related state and local contract opportunity provides details on the project, which involves the reconstruction of Sea Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. The bid opening date is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. The contract documents do not mention any set-asides, incumbents, or funding details.

RESPONSE TO CONTRACTOR’S QUESTION ADDENDUM NO. 2, OCTOBER 2, 2023

Mass Bay Electrical Corp. email dated October 2, 2023:

Question #1: Specifications state that the New copper wire interconnect cable shall be provided for the entire length of the project and run through all traffic signal control cabinets as shown on the plans. The copper wire interconnect cable shall conform to the requirements of I.M.S.A.

Specification 19-2, Shielded Cable, 30 pair #22 AWG.

We would like to know if a 24 strand fiber optic cable can be substituted for the 30pr. Copper because the 30pr. Copper is not readily available or being manufactured.

Response #1: The Contractor shall prepare and submit the bid as specified in the Contract Documents.

Alternative construction methods may be submitted by the Contractor during the shop drawings review process.

Any alternatives must be approved by the District Construction Engineer’s office.
