About this file
This document is a comprehensive Project Manual for the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) Pump Station 2 Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Replacement Project, located at the Water Resource Recovery Facility in Detroit, Michigan. The project involves replacing five existing low-voltage VFDs with new medium voltage VFDs, rewinding five existing pump motors, and performing electrical distribution system upgrades. The scope includes work in multiple areas such as Electrical Building 1, Pump Station 2 Substation Yard, Pump Station 2, and Electrical Building 13, with specific tasks including demolition of existing equipment, installation of new switchgear, transformers, and power distribution systems, and comprehensive integration of new VFDs and motors.
The project is structured as a single prime contract with a February 2025 bid issue date. The estimated contract involves complex electrical and mechanical upgrades with a phased approach to minimize disruption to facility operations, maintaining N+1 power redundancy throughout the project. The contract includes provisions for allowances totaling $2,515,000, covering items such as raceways, structural testing, integration services, pump dynamics modifications, and owner-requested changes. The project emphasizes maintaining continuous wastewater treatment capabilities during construction, with specific sequencing requirements to ensure that only one VFD and pump are out of service at any given time. Coordination with existing GLWA systems, cybersecurity requirements, and comprehensive documentation and testing are key components of the project specifications.
