About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for RFQ 477155 addressing three key areas of clarification for prospective bidders.

Regarding identification and marking, engraving tools are acceptable for marking parts provided they meet character height and MIL-STD-130 requirements. For STEP files, the contracting officer confirmed that STEP files are available alongside part prints; however, sharing procedures are still being finalized with additional information to follow. On the plating specification for aluminum components, Iridite and Alodine are acceptable trade names for chromate conversion coatings and may be used interchangeably or substituted with equivalent processes, provided the selected process meets MIL-DTL-5541 Class 3 (clear, RoHS compliant) requirements.

Questions and Answers RFQ 477155

1 Identification and Marking.

-Can the parts be marked with an engraving tool as long as they meet the character height and MIL-STD-130 requirements?

Yes. As long as the markings meet the requirement, engraving is acceptable.

2 STEP Files

- Are there STEP Files available along with the part prints?

Yes, STEP files are available. However we are looking into what needs to be done to be able to share. More to come on this

3 Plating

- For the aluminum components that are to be plated, I notice in the BOM of each print it lists iridite and alodine. Does this mean the chromate can be replaced with either iridite or alodine?

“Iridite” and “Alodine” are trade names for chromate conversion coatings and are acceptable, provided that the process used meets the requirements of MIL-DTL-5541 Class 3 (clear, RoHS compliant).

In short, you may use Iridite, Alodine, or an equivalent process, as long as it complies with the specified standard and class.
