About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document (Round 3) dated February 21, 2025, for Request for Quote #446572 regarding a Liquid He Dewar and Sub-Cooler procurement for Brookhaven National Laboratory.

The document addresses two technical clarifications: 1) The ladder and platform material requirements, confirming that painted carbon steel is acceptable in white, light grey, or dull green colors, with aluminum being an alternative option that must be specified in quotes; 2) A clarification regarding ASME U-stamp requirements, confirming that the ASME-U stamp is NOT required on the Vacuum Vessel, which resolves a discrepancy between specification SPEC-CAD_1365 section 3.12 and drawing #CA6000026.

# QUESTION ANSWER

1 SPEC-CAD_1365 section 3.12, Dewar Platform:

Is the ladder and platform to be stainless steel or carbon steel?

If carbon steel is painted or galvanized preferred?

Painted Carbon Steel is acceptable for the ladder and the platform. White / Light grey / Dull green are preferred colors.

We can also accept Aluminum. Please specify in the quote.

2 There is a statement in the Technical Specification (SPEC-CAD_1365) section 3.12, Vacuum vessel… does not require to be ASME U-stamped.”

The P&ID drawing #CA6000026 states “OUTER VACUUM VESSEL: ASME U-Stamped” Which is correct?

ASME-U stamp NOT required on the Vacuum Vessel. See attached updated CA6000026 drawing.
