About this file
This document contains a federal construction solicitation and technical specifications for folding panel partitions. The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center is seeking a general contractor to renovate approximately 7,700 square feet of existing space into administration and training areas to support the deployment of a new electronic health records management system. Work will include installation of top-supported folding panel partitions with horizontal opening per the specifications, including 16 gauge steel frame panels with acoustic insulation and vinyl fabric facing, extruded aluminum track and carriers, and performance standards for sound transmission class ratings and load support. Bids are due based on the solicitation number listed for the project being managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs Technology Acquisition Center in Austin.

1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. See Section 013000 - Administrative Requirements, for submittal procedures.
B. Product Data: Provide data on partition materials, operation, hardware and accessories, electric operating components, track switching components, and colors and finishes available.
C. Design Data: Design calculations, bearing seal and signature of structural engineer licensed to practice in the State in which the Project is located, showing loads at points of attachment to the building structure.
D. Shop Drawings: Indicate opening sizes, track layout, details of track and required supports, static and dynamic loads, location and details of pass door and frame, adjacent construction and finish trim, and stacking depth.
E. Samples for Review: Submit two samples of surface finish, 12 by 12 inches (300 by 300 mm) size, illustrating quality, colors selected, texture, and weight.
F. Certificates: Certify that partition system meets or exceeds specified acoustic requirements.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store products in manufacturer’s unopened packaging until installation.
1.06 WARRANTY
A. See Section 017800 - Closeout Submittals, for additional warranty requirements.
B. Provide two year manufacturer warranty against defects in material and workmanship, excluding abuse.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS
A. Folding Panel Partitions - Horizontal Opening:
1. Basis of Design: Hufcor, Inc; Series 642 or equal
2.02 FOLDING PANEL PARTITIONS - HORIZONTAL OPENING
A. Folding Panel Partitions: Side opening; paired panels; side stacking; manually operated.
B. Panel Construction:
1. Frame: 16 gauge, 0.0598 inch (1.52 mm) thick formed sheet steel frame top, bottom, jambs, and intermediates; welded construction, with acoustical insulation fill.
2. Panel Properties:
a. Thickness With Finish: 4 inches (100 mm).
b. Width: Up to 48 inches (1219 mm).
c. Weight: 8 lb/sq ft (40 kg/sq m).
C. Panel Finishes:
1. Facing: Vinyl coated fabric.
D. Panel Seals:
1. Panel to Panel Seals: Grooved and gasketed astragals, with continuous flexible ribbed vinyl seal fitted to panel edge construction; color to match panel finish.
2. Acoustic Seals: Flexible acoustic seals at jambs, meeting mullions, ceilings, retractable floor and ceiling seals, and above track to structure acoustic seal.
E. Suspension System:
1. Track shall be of clear anodized architectural grade extruded aluminum alloy 6063- T6. Track design shall provide precise alignment at the trolley running surfaces and provide integral support for adjoining ceiling, soffit, or plenum sound barrier. Track shall be connected to the structural support by pairs of minimum 3/8" [10] dia. threaded steel hanger rods. Guide rails and/or track sweep seals shall not be required.
2. Track: Extruded aluminum; 1-5/8 by 1-5/8 inch (41 by 41
mm) size; thickness and profile designed to support loads, steel sub-channel and track connectors, and track switches.
3. Carriers: Steel, ball bearing wheels on trolley carrier at top of every second panel, sized to carry imposed loads, with threaded pendant bolt for vertical adjustment.
4. The panels shall be supported by the Unispan pre-engineered truss and post system fabricated of steel and aluminum.
Unispan is attached to the building structure for lateral support only. The load of the truss and partition is supported by end columns. The columns are connected to floor plates that distribute the load of the system at the floor.
