About this file
This document provides usage reports and guidance for a medical supply contract between the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 15 and a contractor. The reports summarize dispensing of pharmaceutical products including aloe vera ointment from March 2020 through August 2020, with over 23,000 tubes dispensed total. The guidance explains that prescriptions are submitted and fulfilled in multiples of 240 grams based on a dispensing unit of 240 grams for the example product. It indicates the contractor is not able to adjust the defined dispensing unit. The related opportunity is solicitation number 36C77020R0003 for pharmaceutical products under the Direct to Patient National Mail Order Pharmacy Program, with responses due under the 6515-DTP-NG NATL CMOP RFP opportunity posted to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Summary for Mar20 thru Aug20:
Rxs
All 2,232,179
Everybody EXCEPT Puerto Rico 2,208,597
JUST Puerto Rico 23,582
And for the folks asking about how to read this. Using A1020, ALOE VESTA PROTECTIVE TOP OINT as the example.
ProdCode VA Print Name NAC Contract Item Dispense Pack DispUnitText
A1020
ALOE VESTA PROTECTIVE TOP
OINT 324908 240 GM
This item is dispensed in Dispense Packs of 240. 240 of what? That is where the DispUnitText comes in. In this case, it is 240 GM. BTW, CMOP doesn’t get to make that decision – we are told what the DispUnitText is. If any of these folks are looking for us to adjust that – this contract is not a good fit for them.
The Medical Center submits their Rxs to CMOP in multiples of 240 (240, 480, and so on). CMOP then tells the Vendor to pick the appropriate NUMBER of Dispense Packs (1, 2, and so on) to fulfill the Rx. Therefore, if a Medical Center sends CMOP an Rx requesting 480 of A1020, CMOP will forward that request to the Vendor telling them to pick 2 (dispense pack is 240, Medical Center wants 480, Vendor must go and pick 2 of the 240gm units they have on their shelf).
How to read the usage listed in this file. Again, using A1020, ALOE VESTA PROTECTIVE TOP OINT as the example (on the ALL tab).

How to calculate
A1020 ALOE VESTA PROTECTIVE
TOP OINT
240 1 11,990 11,990 GM There were 11,990 Rxs that required the Vendor to pick ONE 240gm unit to fulfill the Rx resulting in 11,990 240gm units picked.
A1020 ALOE VESTA PROTECTIVE
TOP OINT
240 2 3,132 6,264 GM There were 3,132 Rxs that required the Vendor to pick TWO 240gm unit to fulfill the Rx resulting in 6,264 240gm units picked.
A1020 ALOE VESTA PROTECTIVE
TOP OINT
240 3 795 2,385 GM There were 795 Rxs that required the Vendor to pick THREE 240gm unit to fulfill the Rx resulting in 2,385 240gm units picked.
A1020 is a very popular item, I only used the first three lines to illustrate how to calculate. As you can see, A1020 actually had 14 lines. One must sum the column Total Dispense Packs to see exactly how many TOTAL 240gm units of A1020 were dispensed by the Vendor between Mar20 and Aug20. That number is 23,470.
Bottom line? The Vendor sent 23,470 tubes of Aloe Vesta ointment out between Mar20 and Aug20.
