Question 80 Q: The control diagram for the modular building on MS-1.02 is identical to the pathology department diagram on MH-7.03. Please provide updated control details and sequences reflective of the required work on the modular trailer.

A: The diagrams and sequences are similar but not identical and are given as a basis of design only. Per general notes A, B, C, and D, the contractor is responsible for the actual system design. See also sheets AS-101, 102, 103, and 104.

Question 81 Q: Please clarify if the intent of the DDC and Laboratory controls is to utilize the same sensors, controllers and air valves in the modular trailer and transfer them to the pathology space.

A: That is not the intent. The intent is to build out the pathology labs in the hospital while lab operations are ongoing in the temporary modular trailers. This necessitates that the pathology lab mechanical systems are complete and functional prior to moving lab operations from the temp trailer to the hospital.

Question 82 Q: MH-6.01 through MH-6.03 doesn’t identify any equipment serving the module trailers. Please provide an updated schedule identifying which equipment serves the trailer or if the equipment has a dual use.

A: The equipment shown in the drawing schedules will be permanently installed and will not serve the temporary modular trailers. The contractor’s design-build engineer is responsible to develop the required equipment selections and schedules. See Attachment 20. MH-6.03 Rev01

Question 83 Q: MI-0.01 identifies tapping into existing AHUs to serve the pathology space temporarily. Will additional controls be necessary, such as differential pressure sensors, and can a drawing added to reflect the necessary modifications to existing units?

A: New AHUs will take over supply for an existing unit (temporarily) and will serve those terminal units according to the existing unit’s sequence of operations and duct static pressure sensor. New AHU’s will be installed completely, to include all controls, dampers, actuators, sensors, etc. necessary for operation. No new terminal units are being added to old AHUs. If the duct tie-in for the AHU takeover renders necessary existing sensors unusable, new ones shall be installed.

Question 84 Q: Drawing QH-104 shows a single gas tagged as H2, Dihydrogen Plumbing drawings do not show piping for this gas. Plumbing drawings do not include a regulator for this gas.

Question 86 Q: There are many instances on the plumbing drawings where acid waste is being show connecting to sanitary vent. There are also instances of “mixed & match” venting, where both acid vent and sanitary vent are shown being tied together. This is in direct violation of California plumbing code, sections 811.2 & 811.6

811.2 Waste and Vent Pipes. Each waste pipe receiving or intended to receive the discharge of a fixture into which acid or corrosive chemical is placed, and each vent pipe connected thereto, shall be constructed of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC), polypropylene (PP), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), chemical-resistant glass, high-silicon iron pipe, or lead pipe with a wall thickness of not less than 1 of an inch (3.2 mm); an approved type of ceramic glazed or unglazed vitrified clay; or other approved corrosion-resistant materials.

811.6 Chemical Vent. No chemical vent shall intersect vents for other services.

Are we to correct these drawings during the bidding phase or bid the drawings as shown?

A: Acid waste pipe designation on plans are a legacy designation given to the piping in existing design documents. Per VA direction the existing lab acid waste collection service is to be utilized post remodel, acid waste will not be discharged to the any waste piping, acid waste neutralization is not required, and no acid waste system is required.

The project basis of design document dated 05/11/21 outlines the plumbing approach for the acid waste in the hospital and states: Site survey and investigation also found acid waste line the lab is collected by a hospital vendor and acid waste lines do not contain acid waste, so separation of sewer and acid lines and an acid neutralization system is not required.

Plumbing project summary located on sheet PI-0.01 also states, Existing lab acid waste collection service is to be utilized post remodel and no acid neutralization is required.

Project specification 22 13 00 - FACILITY SANITARY AND VENT PIPING, section 2.1.A.1.c says cast iron waste, drain, and vent pipe and fittings shall be used for interior waste and vent piping above grade.

Install cast iron waste and vent lines per project design documents and specifications.
