| Project Name: | Correct Domestice Hot Water at Oklahoma City VAMC |
| Project # | 635-18-109 |
| COR: | Cody Cooper |
| Date | 6/29/23 | ||||||
| Question No. | Reference. No. | Area | Description / Question | Date Submitted | Response (From) | Status | Date Completed |
| 1 | Pg. 1_Questions and Answers for Correct Domestic Hot Water Site Prep | Plumbing | There are no balancing valves shown being installed on the existing returns we are to tie new returns into. Without these there is no way to balance the hot water return system correctly. This will lead to dead cold lines, and defeating the purpose of this project. | 6/12/23 | (FFD): Concur, install balancing valves in new and existing hot water returns to balance the new hot water return. | Open | 6/15/23 |
| 2 | Pg. 1_Questions and Answers for Correct Domestic Hot Water Site Prep | Plumbing | In reference to PRFI 3. These foot pedal valves have stops made internal to the foot pedals. They cannot be used for feeding a faucet. The pipes coming out of the walls feeding the foot pedals arc on the floor, and 2" apart. There is no possible way to reuse the existing stops. To install new stops these walls will have to be opened and the hot and cold water rough in will need to be modified. We would also need to install shut off valves in the ceiling at each location to prevent shutting wings of the hospital down for long intervals of time needed to change this rough in. There are hundreds of these locations. In addition, the majority of the foot petal valves are in tile walls. | 6/12/23 | (VA): Concur, modify walls accordingly, install shut off valves and lastly install new stops. (FFD): Concur with VA, in addition, provide stainless steel cover similar to showers to avoid tile replacement. | 6/12/23 | |
| 3 | Pg. 1_Questions and Answers for Correct Domestic Hot Water Site Prep | Plumbing | In reference to PRFI 2. The intent may be to access the walls behind the shower valves, but the majority of these are back to back and cannot be accessed without removing one side of the shower. The back side of the shower mixing valves are either inaccessible or in tiled walls. We would also need to install shut off valves in the ceiling at each location to prevent shutting wings of the hospital down for long intervals of time needed to change this water rough in | 6/12/23 | (VA): Concur. (FFD): Concur, install shutoff valves, replace mixing valves, per PRFI 2 updated response 05-09-23, provide stainless steel cover to avoid tile replacement. | 6/12/2023 6/15/2023 | |
| 4 | Pg. 1_Questions and Answers for Correct Domestic Hot Water Site Prep | Plumbing | In reference to PRFI 12. We take exception to this answer. There is no possible way to run off a hot water supply line, make a loop around an area feeding new faucets, and tie it back onto the same supply line you are feeding the sinks with. This will lead to cold stagnant lines defeating the purpose of this project. These need to return back to the location of the closest hot water return line. A lot of these return risers are 100' feet or more away installed in utility shafts. | 6/12/23 | (FFD): PRFI 12 updated response 05/09/23, install small recirculation pump (approximate qty x30) in referenced return lines to provide constant branch circulation back to existing circulated hot water supply. | 6/15/23 | |
| 5 | Pg. 1_Questions and Answers for Correct Domestic Hot Water Site Prep | Plumbing | PRFI 13 addressed anti ligature faucets, and a basis of design would be provided. In this same ward there are anti ligature shower mixing valves to be replaced. They do not currently make an anti-ligature shower valve with automatic drain down like the multiple other shower mixing valves. They are in current design stage but won't be available for 18 months. Can we assume this will work into the schedule? | 6/12/23 | (FFD): Anti ligature fixtures basis of design provided in addendum #1 dated 05-22-23. | 6/15/23 | |
| 6 | Pg. 1_Questions and Answers for Correct Domestic Hot Water Site Prep | Plumbing | The current hydronic pumps scheduled to be replaced in building 19 are being replaced with a much smaller pump than what is currently there now. | 53 | RFI Correct HW Email dtd 6/22/23 | HVAC | Is there a written specification for the domestic hot water heat exchangers? | 6/22/23 | (FFD): Yes, VA TIL 22 35 00, Domestice Water Heat Exchangers, dtd 09-01-20. | 6/26/23 | ||||
| 54 | RFI Correct HW Email dtd 6/22/23 | Plumbing | Question #12 in the pre-construction RFI’s brings up a serious design flaw that was not answered correctly. The “recirculation line” will not recirculate the water without a dedicated recirculation line. We agree with the recommendation in the RFI to add the recirculation line and ask for those to be added to the plans. | 6/22/23 | Ref Question 4 response above | 6/26/23 | ||||
| 55 | RFI Correct HW Email dtd 6/22/23 | Plumbing | This solicitation is for installing new mixing valves, faucets, pumps and monitoring to the OKC VA Complex water supply system. There are approximately 1,000 sinks to be retroffitted in some way. The site walk thru visit of June 3rd photos shows hands free operation foot pedals mounted on the wall or extending out of a base cabinet toe kick space. Will the foot pedals be totally removed from all sinks or will the mixing valve unit installed above to work in conjunction with the pedals? It is unclear how many of these units are mounted in wood base cabinets. If the foot pedals are to be removed, the woodwork inside the cabinets will need to be restoered to the VA's approval. We need to know how many of these sinks are in wood base cabinet. | 6/22/23 | IRT item 55, of the 1000+ sinks we do not have an accurate count on each type. As stated, some are in a cabinet, some are a pedestal type, etc. To quantify each type would be a guestimate at best. We can try to review any pictures on hand to determine a more accurate count, but this is a tough question. Stated in Q18, FFD stated a planning factor of 350-foot pedal removals. | 6/26/23 | ||||
| 56 | RFI Correct HW Email dtd 6/22/23 | Plumbing | You are correct, there is no mention of chlorination or testing within the project. Chlorination and testing are typically required to assure proper sanitation is achieved before a new or modified domestic water system is placed into service. At the Engineers discretion the standard procedure or requirement could be modified if the work being performed at an existing facility. A detailed procedure should be provided indicating how and where new pipe systems and connections to existing piping should be chlorinated. | 6/22/23 | The MEP Tech Specifications that were submitted w/in division 22100, Facility Water Distribution. These specs are dated 07-15-2020 for reference. Section 3.2, TESTS, B. states: “Potable Water System: Test after installation of piping and domestic water heaters, but before piping is concealed, before covering is applied, and before plumbing fixtures are connected. Fill systems with water and maintain hydrostatic pressure of 1035 kPa (150 psig) gage for two hours. No decrease in pressure is allowed. Provide a pressure gage with a shutoff and bleeder valve at the highest point of the piping being tested. Pressure gauge shall have 1 psig increments.” Section 3.3, Sterilization A. & B. state: A. | “After tests have been successfully completed, thoroughly flush and sterilize the interior domestic water distribution system in accordance with AWWA C651.” B. | “Use liquid chlorine or hypochlorite for sterilization.” | 6/26/23 |
