Structural page S-001 general note 21 says “where noted on architectural drawings structural steel shall have fireproofing applied. See architectural drawings for fireproofing schedule”. No such notes are found. Please confirm no fireproofing is required.
There is not primary structural steel being installed in this project that would require fireproofing. For areas where existing primary structural steel is impacted, that fireproofing shall be 1hr minimum and be compatible with the existing fireproofing. The type of the existing fireproofing shall be verified by the contractor during construction.

Please provide the name of the specific contractor who has the contract, proprietary equipment or warranty for the following services/areas – we will need their assistance connecting to those services:
CCTV
Fire Alarm DDC (Controls) Access Control/Security Roofing The equipment manufacturers for each of the systems noted below are identified in the current design drawings, marked as Delta 1.
003
AQ800 - Equipment items such as A1031 Uline lockers and R001 Nexel Shelving. Are these items assembled already or will require assembly?
Contractor to coordinate with manufacturer/supplier.
004
Section 01 45 00 Quality Control, Page 7, 3.4C “These individuals or specified technical companies are directly employed by the General Contractor and cannot be employed by a supplier or subcontractor on this project are employees of the prime or subcontractor”. Please confirm it is saying that on this project that QC specialized personnel can be employed by the prime or subcontractor.
The specification requires these individuals to be directly employed by the GC.
005
Plan Page AE200b shows 2 Hepa Filtered pass through cabinets. CAP18WHF-sst. The larger cabinet is designated as 25x24x25. Same in specifications 13 21 13, para 2.3A1a2. This is not a stock size; please confirm you want a custom-built cabinet? 24x24x24 is listed as a stock size
At time of design the current stock item for this size range was the 25x24x25 cabinet. The intent is not for a custom-built item.
No exceptions taken to use of a stock size (CAP18WHF-SST-24Wx24Hx24D or equal).
006
Specification Section 13 21 13 Pass Through Chambers, para. 1.6 B state the pass-through cabinets should be installed by a company specializing in performing this work with 5 years documented experience. The manufacturer doesn’t require a specialized company to install these cabinets, nor have approved cabinet installers, and as such has no “preferred” or “qualified” installer listing. Will you waive this requirement provided cabinets are installed in accordance with manufacturer’s installation instructions and provided with applicable warranties? If not, can you provide the names of qualified installers with appropriate experience -we have been unable to locate anyone.
This requirement cannot be waived at this time.
007
No specifications are provided for the chemoshield cabinets (AQ800) U3501, U3502 and L2285 and L2286 however there are a number of options offered by the manufacturer. Please confirm the base model and no options are required with these cabinets.
Please see Attachment 6 – Hoods Specs for the equipment specifications. It’s contractor responsibility to verify the cost and lead-time.
008
Based on the Hazardous materials report (AM2) and the revised drawings (AM5) it appears there are no documented hazardous materials other than on the 4th floor. Please confirm - we are only asking because the report does not reference all the rooms in this project; example room 0202A is not found, however room 0201A (not in contract) adjacent to it does show ACM in the wallboard.
No additional hazardous materials are anticipated; however the contractor shall provide testing as required in all areas of work.
009
In the plans demolition of the ground floor section AE-000 shows an exit plan for phase but not for phase 2. There are two ways to exit the section of phase 2, which way would the VA prefer?
Sht AE-000 does not depict exiting plans, it is overall reference plan. GC to coordinate with VA COR but both exits from the Pharmacy are available during construction. Sht GI-003 shows a 48” clearance at Temp Partition to the existing main exit.
010
Sheet AQ-800 shows the following pieces of equipment as being Contractor provided Contractor installed, Omnicell IV Station RM0205K and Omnicell IV Station RM4026. After speaking with an Omnicell sales rep we were told that they cannot sell directly to us for several reasons, first our price would be about 2x higher than what the VA would get this equipment for, second there would be issues with service contracts and some FDA regulations if they did sell to a general contractor. Will the VA please consider purchasing these two pieces of equipment directly and remove them from the responsibility from the general contractor? General Contractor would only coordinate installation with the construction schedule only.
This was updated with Amendment #0001 on current designs.
011
Is there a list of bidders and/or General Contractors available for this project?
eBeta SAM’s Interested Vendors List was turn on for this solicitation.
Additionally, both Site Visit sign in sheets are posted with amendment 0006.
012
Will the VA please provide the current Hazardous Materials Survey that covers the area in this scope of work?
Please see the response of item 008.
013
Project B-500 IV Cleanroom Compliance is prequalification required?
Please see specification and drawings.
014
On sheet AQ-800 of the drawings, equipment identified as “IV001 & IV002” are listed as GC furnished and GC installed. After looking at the manufacture’s web site and product data, this is not a piece of equipment that a general contractor would normally purchase and install. Will the VA double check to make sure that they truly want the general contractor to purchase and install these two pieces of equipment?
On sheet AQ-800, it states as VA furnished and GC installed as noted on AQ-800.
015
Specification Section 27 05 11 mentions Category 5e communication cabling, or in Section 27 10 00-page 6 mentions (on a case by case basis) Category 6 cabling. We understand that the VA is switching to Category 6A. Will the VA please clarify which Category communications cabling is to be priced when bidding this project?
Cable type is required to be 6A as noted on sheet E-7.0.
016
The Drawings do not depict a Communications Closet. Are we to run cable to an existing Comm Closet? If so, will the VA please provide the location of this room so we may determine the actual distance? If we are to construct a new Comm Closet, will the VA please provide detailed instructions and the location?
Refer to general notes, key notes 9,10 on sheet E-7.0 (updated on delta 1 plan set).
017
Specification Section 01 00 00 General Requirements part 1.21 states that each phase will need to meet Cleanroom CETA Certification requirements. Contact information for Occupational Services, Inc. is provided. This requirement seems to be out of the normal scope of what the contractor would be responsible for. Will the VA please verify that Cleanroom CETA Certification for each phase of construction is the responsibility of the contractor? Will the certification need to occur before or after the VA moves in?
Please see general note on sheet AQ-800.
018
Will the VA clarify whether the Site Superintendent, if duly qualified, may also serve in the role of the Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) or will a separate individual be required to fulfill the role of SSHO as required in specification section 01 35 26 part 1.7.C?
The Site Superintendent may also serve both duties Superintendent and SSHO as long as he/she meets both qualifications and is capable to perform both duties.
019
Section 07 84 00 – Firestopping, Sub-Part 1.5(C) & 3.5 (B) appears to require a 3rd-party inspector to review all fire rated penetrations. Will the VA clarify whether this will be a requirement for this project?
3rd party inspection of firestopping is required per the referenced specifications.
020
LEED is referenced in a few locations spread throughout the specifications. Please confirm the VA is not intending to apply for any LEED certification for this project.
That is correct, LEED is not a requirement for this project.
021
Section 23 08 00 Commissioning of HVAC Systems part 1.1(B) states that the Commissioning Agent will be appointed by the VA. Please confirm that the VA will hire the Commissioning Agent.
It is General Contractor responsibility to provide the third-party commissioning Agent.
