About this file

This document is a Site Planning and Utility Connections Guide for the STERIS Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit, prepared for the VA Medical Center-Fayetteville (Revision A, dated 02/10/2025).

The guide provides comprehensive technical specifications and requirements for deploying a 53-foot expandable mobile endoscope reprocessing unit and accompanying 28-foot support unit at healthcare facilities. Key infrastructure requirements include 480VAC 3-phase 60Hz electrical service (350 AMP MOP for the mobile unit, 100 AMP MOP for the support unit) with disconnects located within 30 feet of the units, cold water supply (1.5" FNPT connection, 50-80 psi dynamic pressure, 700 GPH average, 40-70°F temperature), 4-inch wastewater connection (700 GPH average, 140°F discharge temperature), 2-inch Victaulic fire sprinkler coupling (143 GPM at 46 psi minimum residual pressure), and instrument air lines connecting the support unit to the mobile unit (maximum 120-foot separation). The facility must provide grounding rod installation per NEC Article 250, HVAC condensate drainage with air gaps, IT network extension to an internal patch panel, and all utility line protection. Customer responsibilities include obtaining permits, making all utility connections, providing a connecting corridor or structure (constructed only after unit arrival), installing protective barriers around the unit, weather-sealing interfaces, and providing fire extinguishers. The mobile unit requires minimum 45-inch threshold height (up to 54 inches with dunnage), operates within a 75-foot by 30-foot footprint, and must be anchored with tie-down points installed post-delivery. Delivery slopes cannot exceed specified pitch/rise ratios, and minimum support pads are required based on site conditions. The document establishes a two-week commissioning schedule with deployment occurring on Tuesdays and turnover on Fridays of Week 2, with parallel responsibilities allocated between STERIS and the customer throughout pre-deployment, installation, operation, and decommissioning phases.

MOBILE ENDOSCOPE REPROCESSING UNIT

SITE PLANNING & UTILITY GUIDE

REV A 02/10/2025

Introduction and Disclaimer

The purpose of this document is to provide the basic information needed for site planning and implementation of the STERIS Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit at your facility. Please note that STERIS mobile units may have minor variations in dimensions, equipment layout, product portfolio, ancillary cooling packages and means of egress.

Once a specific Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit has been assigned to your facility, STERIS will provide guidance regarding any requirements that may be different from this site guide.

Important Notes

1. Prior to deployment, STERIS will perform a site visit and/or teleconference to review mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) requirements with all parties involved to ensure a successful project.

2. Customer is responsible for all licenses, permits, and government approvals.

3. Customer is responsible to make all utility connections.

4. Power must be readily available within 30’ of the front/nose of the Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit and the Support Unit upon delivery. All utilities must be stubbed out to the deployment locations.

5. Customer is responsible for providing a connecting structure or corridor to transport instruments into and out of the mobile unit. This structure can only be built AFTER the mobile unit arrives on site. Substantial costs and project delays will result if the structure is built prior to mobile unit arrival and placement.

6. STERIS will provide a staircase for the Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit emergency exit door and the Support Unit only. If the provided stairs do not meet local code or preference requirements, the Customer is required to provide alternate stairs.

7. Anchor tie down points must only be constructed or installed AFTER the mobile unit arrives on site.

• The Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit has 2 tie down rings at each corner and 4 additional per side (16 total) at 9,200 lb. capacity each (6,500 lb horizontal/vertical capacity).

• At minimum, corners must be secured - final tie down configuration is field specific.

• Anchor points to be located approximately 45 degrees from the ground.

• STERIS will provide straps needed to secure the unit at each corner.

• The Support Unit has 3 tie rings on each side to be used as needed.

1. Ground penetrations are the responsibility of the Customer.

2. Tie down requirements are at the discretion of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

Access Requirements

• Facility must provide a connecting corridor or structure for transport of instruments into and out of the Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit. This structure can only be built once the unit is delivered and in place.

• Entry and Exit doors are located on the driver side of the Mobile Endoscope Reprocessing Unit and the Emergency Exit door is located at the rear of the passenger side expandable section.

The mobile unit can raise and lower to meet various height challenges, however there are limitations on the minimum and maximum height of the unit.

STERIS requires that deck elevations be sent for approval prior to unit delivery. Customer must not build the connecting structure until AFTER the unit arrives on-site.

The connecting corridor must be built to fit the settled position of the mobile unit to ensure the best possible alignment between these structures. STERIS will not manipulate the unit to align with a preexisting structure.

STERIS takes great care in setting up the mobile unit to ensure that it properly leveled and expanded. The final height and horizontal placement of access doors will shift during this process. Once set in place, it is not practical to further manipulate the mobile unit without risking significant delay.
