About this file

This is a Pre-Bid Requests for Information (RFIs) Log with Answers document for contract 578-26-006, "Repair Steam and Condensate Risers Building 1 - Phase 2," a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) construction project. The document contains 17 pre-bid RFIs submitted between March 18 and April 1, 2026, with official responses from the VA (identified as "MM").

The RFIs address critical project execution details including work sequencing, access, and specifications. Key responses clarify that contractors will have access to all necessary floors to complete work, may work on up to 5 riser locations simultaneously with Contracting Officer Representative (COR) coordination, and can move through project phases without schedule delays with COR approval. All risers are identified as top-fed (not bottom-fed) steam risers with new isolation valves required at all valve locations on both new and existing fin tube radiators. The project is structured in four phases: Phase 1 (Asbestos Abatement - 30 days), Phase 2 (New Riser and Chase Installation - 200 days), Phase 3 (Disconnect and Connect in Sections A-F - 170 days), and Phase 4 (Disconnect and Connect in Section G - 20 days). The contractor is responsible for removing obstructing equipment, wall fixtures, cabinetry, radiator covers, and furniture; restoring surface damage; and submitting shop drawings for all riser locations. Finishes must match existing conditions, with entire walls painted "corner to corner" for paint matching. Fin tube radiators require Danfoss RA2000 thermostatic radiator controls and shut-on/off valves at each new installation location, with contractor submittal of schedules and manufacturer specifications required during the submittal period. All responses were incorporated into Amendment 0001.
