About this file
This document outlines specifications for a VERDA Utility Water Quality System to be installed at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee. The system will include series sediment filtration with 5 micron and 0.5 micron pleated polypropylene filters, water softening to reduce feed water hardness for utility water heaters, electric water heaters to produce hot utility water at 140 degrees Fahrenheit with 600 gallon per hour recovery capacity, and recirculation of hot utility water. The modular system will integrate additional future water treatments if desired. It will be monitored through an expandable cloud-based predictive maintenance and monitoring system. The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 9 is soliciting proposals for installation of this VERDA Utility Water Quality System in the Sterile Processing Supply area to replace multiple point-of-use filters and upgrade functionality to meet AAMI standards for utility water quality in central sterile processing.

The VERDA Utility Water Quality System:
A single point treatment for all Central Sterile Processing Utility Water is recommended to address issues with multiple point-of-use filters, current low hot water temperature, and the desire for functionality upgrades in the future. The proposed system is comprised of the following elements:
• Series sediment filtration o 5µm pleated polypropylene filter (98% retention of particles 5 microns and larger i.e., dirt, rust) o 0.5µm pleated polypropylene filter (98% retention of particles 0.5 microns and larger i.e., silt)
• Water softening o Softening of feed water for Utility Water heaters
• Utility Hot Water o Electric water heaters for hot Utility Water production
• Recirculation of hot Utility Water o Ensures consistent hot water temperatures are maintained at point-of-use faucets and SPD equipment (e.g., ultrasonic, washer-disinfectors) o Constant water flow to eliminate stagnant hot water in the Utility Water piping network, which is prone to bacteria growth, even though it is chlorinated
• Modular interconnected palletized systems o This design feature streamlines the integration, reducing both the installation time and on-site plumbing labor and materials costs o The modular design also allows for the integration of additional water treatments (e.g., pH balancing, TOC reduction) o In the future, the modular system, when additional water treatment options are desired, provides a lower cost initial set-up lower upgrade costs
• Predictive Maintenance and Monitoring System o Expandable, cloud-based monitoring system o Alarmed to alert via text or email
