About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document from a VA (Veterans Affairs) solicitation addressing equipment specifications and design alternatives for a patient handling system installation.
The VA confirmed equipment requirements with the Safe Patient Handling coordinator: nine ceiling lifts with 650-pound capacity and integrated scales, plus one ceiling lift with 825-pound capacity and integrated scales to accommodate bariatric patients. Regarding bathroom safety infrastructure, the VA indicated openness to evaluating a full room-covering bathroom system as an alternative to a standard straight rail to the toilet, provided the contractor demonstrates how the proposal reduces construction impacts and limits ancillary work. The document concludes with a notification that the VA will not accept additional questions on this matter.

Text version
Can this lift capacity and integrated scale requirement be verified with the Safe Patient
Handling (SPH) team onsite so we can ensure the proposed equipment matches the clinical intent discussed during the walkthrough?
I confirmed with SPH coordinator the following:
• Nine (9) 650 lb capacity ceiling lifts with integrated scales
• One (1) 825 lb capacity ceiling lift with integrated scales to support bariatric patients
Is the VA open to reviewing and accepting a full room–covering bathroom system in lieu of a straight rail to the toilet, in order to avoid unnecessary construction impacts while providing enhanced functionality and coverage?
Yes, we are open to reviewing this proposal. However, the contractor would need to show how their proposal reduces construction impacts and limits ancillary work.
***THE VA WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINING ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS!***
