About this file

This document is a technical specification section (08 34 46) for Radio-Frequency-Interference Shielding Doors for the Durham VA Healthcare System's MRI 1.5T replacement project. The specification requires a purpose-manufactured MRI door system with a demonstrated life cycle test rating of at least 10,000 operational cycles without loss of RF attenuation, from a manufacturer with a minimum 5-year track record. The doors must include specific hardware components such as continuous hinges, privacy lever locks, wall stops, kick plates, card readers, and thresholds, with a requirement to be compatible with the existing Physical Access Control System.

Key technical requirements include a high-pressure plastic laminate finish, a minimum Sound-Transmittance Class of STC-40, and RF shielding performance to be determined in consultation with the VA Physicist and MRI equipment manufacturer. The installation process involves precise frame anchoring using non-ferrous materials, ensuring the doors are plumb, level, and properly aligned. The specification emphasizes compatibility with existing systems, detailed hardware specifications, and precise installation requirements to maintain the RF shielding integrity of the MRI environment.
