SCOPE OF WORK

Building 1 and Clinical Addition Legionella Eradication Project # 540-20-103

GENERAL SUMMARY OF WORK

The project consists of work related to the monitoring and eradication of legionella within the domestic water piping systems of the main hospital building at the Louis A. Johnson VAMC (LAJVAMC). The objective of this project is to improve the water quality by eliminating the presence of legionella within the domestic piping systems through the removal of dead legs and cross connects of water mains, that while functional is not conducive to legionella eradication.

The LAJVAMC has historically struggled with control of legionella, and as a result has dedicated significant resources to monitoring, testing, and remediating the domestic water supply. These efforts come at a substantial cost and the persistent presence of legionella poses a safety risk to vulnerable patients and staff.

Specific work included in this project includes the following:

· Elimination of cross connections and pipe “dead legs” where identified is needed. Provide designs to tie hot water into circulating loops. Removal of dead legs shall meet the requirements of the Plumbing design manual section 4.4.2.a “Dead Ends”

· Installation of a supplemental chlorination system in the hot water loops in building 1 and the Clinical Addition. System should include continuous monitoring. System capable of connection with existing Metasys BAS.

· A back-up heat exchanger for the clinical addition and a new hot water heater is needed to supply the laundry and kitchen.

· Installation of automatic flushers on all pipe risers at the last fixture on the end of all cold-water risers (or hot water, as applicable) or branch lines. This includes installation of an outlet under the sink for power. Automatic faucets capable of connection with existing Metasys BAS.

· Hot water temperature monitoring stations should be at the end of each loop (as many as necessary). Monitoring stations shall report results back to existing Metasys BAS.

· Tie existing water quality monitoring stations to Metasys BAS.

All work is to be completed withing 365 days after issuance of the notice to proceed.

Please refer to the construction specifications and drawings for more details on this project.
