About this file
This is a Question and Answers document for solicitation 36C24426Q0619 regarding sprinkler system inspection and repair services at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center. The document clarifies key specifications for the scope of work: there are 6 wet sprinkler systems, 1 dry system, and no pre-action or deluge systems. The wet systems consist of 5 four-inch valve/riser systems and 1 one-and-a-quarter-inch system, while the dry system has a four-inch valve/riser. The sprinkler gauges are a mix of air-filled and oil-filled types, with contractors required to verify the type during inspection. The testing scope includes 7 fire department connections (FDCs) and 12 hydrants, all located in the main building, fire pump building, and Community Living Center, but excludes other outside buildings on the property.
The work encompasses section control valves in accordance with NFPA 25 standards, backflow obstruction inspections, and replacement of 40 sprinkler gauges. Standpipe flow testing is not required. The document notes that previous inspection reports cannot be provided and that available Life Safety and Fire Suppression System drawings are over 10 years old and may be inaccurate due to multiple system and building updates since their completion. Notably, the drawings indicate two dry systems, but one system in the shops area has since been converted to a wet system.
