About this file

This is a Responses to Requests for Information (RFI) document addressing technical clarifications for the CO2 Gas Ventilation project at Buffalo VA Medical Center (Project #528-22-125).

The document resolves three key specifications for opening 223E: (1) door finish is confirmed as Acrovyn 1352 Fossil Teak rather than the project-standard Alpine AL18 finish, (2) the mortise lockset is confirmed as a #3 lever with J escutcheon rather than the previously approved #15 lever with H style rose, and (3) a 1-inch door undercut is acceptable despite fire rating constraints, with the alternative option of installing a fusible link louver in the door if additional ventilation into the room is needed. These RFI responses clarify that the specification differences are intentional and do not require conformance to other project standards. The document references attached plans and includes a reference image for lever specification comparison.

C02 GAS VENTILATION - Buffalo 528-22-125 RESPONSES TO RFIs

1. The attached plans show an added opening, 223E, with hardware and door finish that are not consistent with the rest of the project.

The finish that was approved on the rest of the project for the doors is Alpine AL18, and this one request Acrovyn 1352 Fossil Teak. Can you verify that this difference is not an issue?

The lever on the mortise lockset is also different from what has been approved. Currently approved is the 15 levers, with the H style rose, and the new plans call for a 3 lever, with a J escutcheon (image below for reference).

Can you confirm that these differences are intentional, and do not need to match?

Answer: Per the plan. The selected finish is Acrovyn 1352 Fossil Teak and with #3 lever

1. An additional issue that I am seeing with this is that the plans call for a 1” undercut but with a fire rating, the maximum is ¾”.

Please advise if the fire rating should be removed, or the undercut should be lowered to ¾”. Additional option if ventilation into the room is needed could be fusible link louver in the door.

Answer: ¾’’ undercut is acceptable image1.png
