Warnings, Cautions and Notices

Warnings, Cautions and Notices. Note that warnings, cautions and notices appear at appropriate intervals throughout this manual. Warnings are provide to alert installing contractors to potential hazards that could result in death or personal injury. Cautions are designed to alert personnel to hazardous situations that could result in personal injury, while notices indicate a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage-only accidents.

Your personal safety and the proper operation of this machine depend upon the strict observance of these precautions.

Read this manual thoroughly before operating or servicing this unit.

Important

Environmental Concerns!

Scientific research has shown that certain man-made chemicals can affect the earth’s naturally occurring stratospheric ozone layer when released to the atmosphere. In particular, several of the identified chemicals that may affect the ozone layer are refrigerants that contain Chlorine, Fluorine and Carbon (CFCs) and those containing Hydrogen, Chlorine, Fluorine and Carbon (HCFCs). Not all refrigerants containing these compounds have the same potential impact to the environment. Trane advocates the responsible handling of all refrigerants-including industry replacements for CFCs such as HCFCs and HFCs.

Responsible Refrigerant Practices!

Trane believes that responsible refrigerant practices are important to the environment, our customers, and the air conditioning industry. All technicians who handle refrigerants must be certified. The Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) sets forth the requirements for handling, reclaiming, recovering and recycling of certain refrigerants and the equipment that is used in these service procedures. In addition, some states or municipalities may have additional requirements that must also be adhered to for responsible management of refrigerants. Know the applicable laws and follow them.

ATTENTION: Warnings, Cautions and Notices appear at appropriate sections throughout this literature. Read these carefully:

WARNING

Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTIONs Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury. It could also be used to alert against unsafe practices.

NOTICE:

Indicates a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage only

WARNING

Proper Field Wiring and Grounding Required!

All field wiring MUST be performed by qualified personnel. Improperly installed and grounded field wiring poses FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazards. To avoid these hazards, you MUST follow requirements for field wiring installation and grounding as described in NEC and your local/state electrical codes. Failure to follow code could result in death or serious injury.

WARNING

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required!

Installing/servicing this unit could result in exposure to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards.

• Before installing/servicing this unit, technicians

MUST put on all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) recommended for the work being undertaken.

ALWAYS refer to appropriate MSDS sheets and

OSHA guidelines for proper PPE.

• When working with or around hazardous chemicals, ALWAYS refer to the appropriate MSDS sheets and

OSHA guidelines for information on allowable personal exposure levels, proper respiratory protection and handling recommendations.

• If there is a risk of arc or flash, technicians MUST put on all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with NFPA 70E or other country-specific requirements for arc flash protection, PRIOR to servicing the unit.

Failure to follow recommendations could result in death or serious injury.

General Information

Our rental air handling units are custom Trane air handlers that have been modified for use as rental units. The majority of the modifications are related to framing for rigging purposes, connection of chilled water piping, and temporary duct connection.

RSAU0025F0 and RSAU0062F0 Rental Air

Handlers

These air handling units contain only chilled water coils and do not have heating capability. Each unit has been selected for use with 100% outside air. Return plenums can be field fabricated by others if required.

An MP580 controller with touch screen display and wireless zone sensor is included with each unit. In addition, each unit includes a Trane TR1 variable frequency drive (VFD) that controls the fan motor. For additional information on the unit controls see “Controls Information”.

RSAU0025F1, RSAU0050F1, and RSAU0062F1

Rental Air Handlers

These AHUs contain both chilled water and hot water coils for year-round operation. Each unit has been selected for use with 100% outside air, but include return plenums and dampers to allow for 100% return air as well.

A Trane TR2 variable frequency drive (VFD) is included to control the fan motor. The VFD is controlled with a potentiometer dial. For additional information on the unit controls see "Controls Information."

Multiple coils need to be manifolded together in order to connect with a single water connection. The unit is supplied with manifolds for both the hot and cold water coils. Due to shipping restrictions, these manifolds ship loose in the discharge section of the unit and must be field installed. Due to variances in header locations, the cooling coil manifolds are not interchangeable. Each is labeled with (2) four letter codes. The first four letters (F1AO, for example) correspond to the last four letter of the AHU's identifying stencil. The second set of four letters designates where the piece should be installed on that unit (i.e. TLFT indicates it should be installed in the upper left position). The labels are painted onto each pipe in the cooling coil manifolds. See Figure 17.

Installation and Startup Guidelines

In addition to the startup guidelines below, please refer to startup information contained in the Custom Climate Changer Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual CAH-SVX01B-EN (or most recent version).

[ ] Install piping manifold supplied with unit (if applicable) and ensure all temporary piping is properly secured.

See piping configuration information on page 16.

[ ] Install the P-trap supplied with unit. The unit P-trap is located in a bin in the mixed air chamber that is accessed through the filter access door.

[ ] Close all coil drains.

[ ] Install all temporary supply ductwork and open manual dampers.

[ ] For F1 Series units only: Install temporary return air ductwork.

a. It is recommended that the number of return ducts exceeds the number of supply ducts by at least (1).

For example, if 4 supply ducts are used, 5 return ducts are recommended.

b. The return section consists of (2) separate louvers.

The bottom louver is open to the atmosphere and is used for fresh air intake. The top louver is covered with a return plenum and is used for return air ductwork.

c. The damper handle on the side of the unit operates the dampers for both the return and fresh air louvers. Moving the handle in one direction closes the fresh air intake while opening the return air intake, while moving the handle in the other direction does the opposite.

Connect any return ductwork to the duct connections without dampers first, then connect any additional return ducts on the bottom side of the plenum to the duct connectors with dampers.

For F0 Series Units Only: If the provided wireless zone sensor will be used, locate it, remove it from unit, and install it in the desired location before applying main power to the Air Handler.

[ ] Ensuring the power supply is de-energized, connect electrical cable supplied with unit to the breaker at the powersupply. See electrical information on page 15.

[ ] Ensure all personnel are in a safe location and that all doors on the Air Handler are closed.

[ ] Make sure all access doors are properly closed.

[ ] Energize the breaker at the power supply.

[ ] Depress Red Start/Stop button on exterior of electrical section door

[ ] Energize the fused disconnect on the Rental Air Handler.

[ ] Pull out red start/stop button to start fan operation

a. Locate the Digital Potentiometer in the externally mounted enclosure. Turn it clockwise to increase the fan speed. The number '0000' represents 20 Hz fan speed, while '1000' represents 100% fan speed (60 Hz).

b. If the fan does not start, depress the start/stop button. Open the door and ensure on the VFD interface that the unit is in HAND/ON mode.

[ ] For F0 Series Units only: Using the unit mounted stand alone touch screen display select either “CV” or “VAV.”

See page 18 for display location and explanation of the CV and VAV options.

Note: Power must be supplied to the unit to operate the touch screen display.

[ ] The Red start/stop button on the exterior of the electrical door will stop fan operation. To de-energize the unit, you must switch the fused disconnect to the open position.
