The solicitation seeks to upgrade five air handler units through two phases of work. Phase one will replace units 04 and 06, while phase two will replace units 22, 34, and 36. The work includes new humidification, dehumidification, heating, cooling, energy recovery, ductwork, piping, insulation, controls and ancillary equipment. The period of performance is 365 calendar days from notice to proceed. Bids are due on or around 2 November 2020 under solicitation number 36C24221B0003. The estimated value is between $2-5 million. RFI Answers for Solicitation 3C24221B0003 Project: 528A7-18-739 Replace AHU’s 04, 06, 22, 34, 36 Date: 12-21-20
1. Please issue a revised spec for water treatment 232500 if needed. The published spec under this # is 230541 seismic vibration. Specification 232500 is issued with this response.
2. Please identify the actual size and location of the freight elevator that can be utilized for moving equipment and material.
As stated in specification 010000 General Requirements, the freight elevators at the Syracuse VAMC are sized as follows:
a. Capacity: 5,000 lbs
b. Door opening: 54”wide x 84” high. The door is flush to one side.
c. Inside depth: 85”, but can gain 2” if the railing is temporarily removed from the back wall.
Also, another 11” of depth is available for the width of the door if our elevator contractor is hired to ride the elevator with the door open (we had to do this for a Liebert CRAC).
d. Inside width: 78”
e. Height: 96”, except there is a slot along back wall to allow 10’ sections of pipe to travel in elevator.
The elevators are located in between Wing “A” and “B” behind the main elevators.
3. Please identify if there are any time restrictions for using the freight elevator? There are none, but patients and VA logics and Food Service have preference.
4. Can Thermaduct brand duct be utilized for the temporary double wall duct on the roof? Yes, as long as the double-walled ductwork meets the insulation spec in specification 230711 HVAC and Boiler Plant Insulation.
5. Is the 60 x 15 duct to be double wall on 1-MH-103T coming off of EF-22? Yes.
6. Is all of the temporary duct on 1-MH-104 to be double wall? Yes, all of the outdoor ductwork is to be double-walled.
7. Are the temp units and temp duct to remain in place or be removed once custom units are up and running? Everything needs to be returned to original condition and removed at the end of the contract. See the phasing notes on sheet 1-GI-002.
8. Please clarify the duct run on 1-MD-106 where the 30” and 26” duct separate by EF-201 in detail 2. Is there 3 ducts coming from Temp AHU-6 or does the 30” split into 2 ducts? There are three ducts that come from Temp AHU-6. (2) will be 30” and (1) will be 26”. In regards to the 30” and 26” ducts by EF-201, the 26” duct is running underneath the 30” duct as seen by the dotted line inside of the 30” duct.
9. Are there cut sheets for the temp AHU’s? The Basis of Design for the temporary AHU’s are Trane Units, or approved equal, with both a heating and cooling coil. See the AHU schedule on sheet 1-MH-801 as well as the attached cut-sheets.
10. Does the Temp duct inside the bldg. need to be insulated? Yes, as per specification 230711.
11. Is any off hour work required for pipe and duct tie-ins? Yes, it depends on areas served and occupancy.
12. Can rigging be done during normal work hours? No, all Rigging to be performed on weekends and 2 floors below need to be un-occupied.
13. Please clarify the 30 x 18 duct that appears to run on top of AHU-34/36 is correct on 1-MH-104. There isn’t a drop shown showing it coming down to the roof level. It is run on top of AHU-34/36 at a height of approximately 11’ above the roof until the 30 x 18 duct is near where it connects to the 64 x 8 duct supply. At that point it will drop down to approximately 5’ above the roof where it will connect to the existing exterior wall penetration. The drop is not shown on the drawing but it shall occur within 12’ of penetrating the exterior wall.
14. Please clarify the Low side supply duct size on AHU 34/36 on 1-MH-104. The duct is 28” x 10”.
15. Please clarify the RA duct sizes for AHU34/36 on 1-MH-104. The duct is 28” x 10”.
16. Does the RA duct that is shown as 32 x 28 split just before the existing wall or are there 2 separate ducts? See 1-MH-104. Can a side view drawing of all duct on the unit be issued? The 32” x 28” RA duct splits, the top RA duct travels plan left where it transitions into the 52 x 14 duct through the wall. The bottom RA 32 x 28 duct branches off to connect into the 32 x 28 duct through the wall.
17. Can temp duct be reused if the sizes are the same for new duct? No Temp unit needs to remain on until new unit is operational. All temporary duct shall be new.
18. Does outside duct need to be stainless steel per spec section 233100 section 2.1 B? If yes, does this pertain to the temporary duct as well? Yes, for Permanent Ductwork, not for Temporary.
19. Drawing: 1-MH-104 Specification: 233100 2.3 A-D
Temporary ductwork on the roof is shown to be double wall with liner construction. Drawing 1-MH-104 has permanent roof duct serving AHU-34/36. I don't see any notes stating this duct is to be double wall with liner and the specification referencing liner states "where indicated on drawings" Please clarify if this roof duct can be single wall construction or if it needs to be double wall with liner. Both temporary and permanent outdoor ductwork shall be double walled.
20. Will standing seam roofs be acceptable on the outdoor AHU? Per specification 237300 Section 2.1 F, “Standing seam roofing system will not be acceptable.”
21. Are factory/shop-built heat skids required or are they just an option?
Factory/shop-built heat skids are required and shall be provided. The factory/shop-built heat skids shall be built and tested in the factory, then dis-assembled and brought into the mechanical rooms of the hospital for re-assembly.
