Response: Item 2 is a direct copy of the specification which requires that the designer shall verify pressure drop and CFM based on the classification of the system, and in the spec section this is a sub-paragraph of # 1. It did not look like #2 was a unique question but rather a part of question 1. The system should be considered medium duty, which in turn requires 300CFM of air flow for every linear foot of cooking surface. This is the classification and requirement which the contract winner shall pass on to the Fire protection firm they choose to hire for correct calculations of their installation. Fans have a wide range of performance depending on how much static pressure drop they need to overcome and it will be the contractor’s responsibility to verify that the system they wish to install is up to code and specification requirements. In short, this is a number the contractor needs to provide in submittals based on the classification we established.
This is the specification which was copied into the questions.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.1 exhaust HOODS A. The hood shall be constructed of a minimum of 18 gauge, (type 304) stainless steel with a #3 finish. Hood shall be constructed using the standing seam method for optimum strength. The seams on the canopy shall be welded liquidtight, and all exposed external welds shall be ground and polished to match the original finish of the metal. Lighter material gauges, alternate material types and finishes (400 series stainless steel, cold rolled steel, etc.) and non-liquidtight welding (tack weld, spot weld, etc.) is not acceptable. Construction shall include corrosion-resistant steel framing members for strength. Short circuit style hoods are not allowed. Hood shall be of a design to lower the CFM requirements by at least 20 to 30 percent. This can be accomplished by various internal configurations or air deflectors.
C. Hood shall include UL listed and NSF certified grease extractor type, high efficiency cartridge style baffle filters of adequate number and sizes to ensure optimum performance in accordance with manufacturer’s published information. The filter housing shall terminate in a pitched, full length grease trough, which shall drain into a removable grease container. Hood shall be provided with one (1) filter removal tool.
3. Are the existing exhaust fans being replaced?
Response: Fan replacement is not expected.
4. If the Current exhaust fans are not being replaced, What is the CFM rating for the existing fans?
Response: Existing Kitchen Exhaust Fan (KEF) 1 is a Greenheck Model CUBE-161-7-G. KEF-2 is a Greenheck Model CUBE-240HP-15-G. Manufacturer catalog data indicates KEF-1 to have a performance range of 1983CFM-3636CFM depending upon static pressure. KEF-2 has a range of 3932CFM – 5737CFM depending on static pressure. The fire protection professional should calculate the expected pressure drop associated with new grease filters and other suppression equipment, then compare to the performance curves of KEF-1 and KEF-2 to verify code compliance.
5. Does the existing grease duct and roof top fans have to be cleaned?
Response: cleaning of ductwork and roof top fans is recommended since welding of the subject hoods is expected.
6. Existing Grease duct is not Fire Wrapped. Spec Section 23 07 11-10 2.7 Will this be required?
Response: Fire wrap is not anticipated.
7. Will remote monitoring from the DDC system be required.
Response: Remote monitoring via DDC system of the fans is not required. Integration of the fire suppression system to the Notifier Fire alarm system IS required.
631-17-008 Renovation of Bldg 9 Basement CWM
8. No finish schedule shown in the drawings that show where the floorings products indicate where or what products go in which rooms. Please advise.
Response: Carpet and Base is in the spec and should have been field measured. Bathrooms: 24x24 Porcelain floor tile in bathrooms with marble ADA compliant threshold. 12x24 Porcelain wall tile. Full height on wet wall and 48” high or nearest dimension for a fill tile. Provide bullnose trim cap (3x12) at walls with tile wainscot.
SATOC SEED 689-18-019 Roof Replacement West Haven
9. Please advise if any set of drawings will be issued for the Replace Roof BLDG 36 project.
Response: No drawings will be issued.

10. Based on an assessment of the existing conditions during the walk-thru the ceilings seem to be a plaster material that in the past has tested for asbestos, please confirm these have been tested, if so provide report for this area.
RESPONSE: Asbestos surveys have been completed for both the second and third floors of B207. These ceilings are not known to contain asbestos.
11. Also observed during the walk-thru; walls to be demolished contain existing code blue, please indicate where this should be relocated to within the space.
RESPONSE: The pull cords shall be located immediately adjacent to the wall to be removed.
12. Lastly, it was observed that the ceilings to be demolished include RCP’s or heating panels which will either need to be relocated or replaced. Please advise.
REPSPONSE: Heating panels are to remain in place.
518-18-006 Crescent House, Bedford I have results from hazmat testing (NESHAP) and there are no indications of hazardous materials in the areas that will be disturbed for this project. I have results from the testing companies for all interior finish materials and a verbal verification from Jason Pronovost that the fire proofing on the structure is negative for materials. Phil Gacek will furnish the reports for the fireproofing when he returns from vacation. This will affect the bidding by the offerors. OVERALL SATOC QUESTIONS
13. Is the seed project to be bid using RS Means? Or do we just use the SATOC SEED Task Order Pricing Sheet without using RS Means costs for pricing?
Response: Yes it is to be bid with RS Means. The SATOC SEED Task Order Pricing sheet incorporates the coefficient.
14. WAGE DETERMINATIONS
Response: Wage determinations shall be the most recent determination available. A wage determination will be issued with each seed project when they are awarded.
